The wavetable stuff in Z2 sounds very interesting. I hate to compare it to a V****, but since the wavetable synthesis was the main thing that interested me about the TI and Zebra is already one of the fatter sounding softsynths out there the TI is suddenly looking a lot less attractive.

A wavetable synth of Z2 quality would be fantastic. For some reason there aren't many wavetable synths out there right now outside of some Reaktor ensembles. Kubik is probably the best alternative but it just hasn't clicked with me.

Anyway, I was already looking forward to Z2 but now I can't wait.

I can't wait for Z2!

One other one that's different but nice is Wusik with Digi One Wave Tables...

Heh, yeah, I can't wait either!

Unfortunately there are still some dark spots that need a lot of thinking... like the XY controls for the new engine as well as the whole mod matrix stuff... no big deal issues but still things that don't let me dare any estimates. Worst of all, I have no idea yet how to convert all the existing Zebra 1.5 patches... it's possible, but it's gonna be a boring, lengthy code section that takes all those hundreds of old parameters and redirects them into the new scheme...

However, the new oscs rock. It's not just the wavetable stuff, it's also the 2 spectral effects units inside of each. Having full stereo control across the whole signal chain is really great too.

Cheers,

While you're in there in the XY controls, a recordable XY pad control would be extremely excellent, especially if it could be used to do vector synth stuff.

Unless it would mean six more months before Z2.

Kolin,

I'm gonna downsize the Grid to a 4 x 12 matrix. This probably gives me enough room to put the mixer (formerly Global module in left rack) below the Grid section. Therefore, I hope to make the LineMix modules non-exclusive for a row (which is a bit tricky in respect of drawing the path, but it should work somehow).

Does this sound okay for you?

You can add/remove Modules from the Grid so that it's gonna be less cluttered. Which is good, considering that the number of modules available is almost gonna double ( additional modules planned: 4 aux oscs, 2-4 extra filters, the scopes can be used as reference level for new kinda limiter modules..., maybe extra panning modules, we'll see... )

Cheers,

;) Urs

Well, the XYs have never been meant for being modulated by LFOs, envelopes whatsoever... They've always been there as an easy way to tweak a full patch, i.e. in a live situation or for automation.

The only chance I see would be a kind of global envelope that could be triggered by certain key events - think OhmForce Meloman concept...

However, I'm thinking of an special dual-axis modulator within the voice section. The problem is, I really do not want to make it too complex. It's already going to be way more complex than Zebra 1.5. I would love to maintain a certain simplicity to keep up the Zebra 1.5 spirit.

There might be a good chance though. It might be possible to make the list of modulators customizable, at least in respect of Envelopes, LFOs and whatever populates the Modulator Rack. Just like you can add/remove modules in the Grid. This way the user could be presented with a very simple layout like 2 Osc - 1 Filter - 2 Envelopes - 2 LFOs that wouldn't even require any scrolling or tabbing. We'll see...

Cheers,

;) Urs
