Tracktion 2 won't work and won't (re) install - HELP!

I'm brand new to computer recording and have just got Tracktion 2. The shop I bought it from installed it on my computer for me. I've just tried to use it for the first time. I went to the settings page, clicked on 44khz and the thing crashed! I uninstalled it as I have no computer knowledge to try and sort it out, thinking it would be easier to reinstall and start again.
when I try and install again I get the message
error opening file for writing:
C:\Program Files\Tracktion2\Tracktion.exe
I haven't a clue what's going on. The shop is closed for the weekend. Could someone please help!
Thanks

Strange. Have you tried following the path to your Tracktion2 folder and manually deleting it if there are any files left? You might also want to go into your Settings and Documents folder and deleting the Tracktion settings folder. Then it will be a nice clean install.

thanks for your reply. In the program folder there are 3 files
tkresource.dll
tracktion.exe
uninstalltracktion.exe
I've tried to delete the tkresource.dll file but get the message "cannot delete access denied"
I haven't tried deleting the other two as I don't think I should
Any further thoughts? thanks for your help

When you uninstalled it, did you do it using 'add/remove' programs? If you've deleted everything you can including the settings file and folder, you could try installing it in a different folder. See what happens then.

I've gone to the program file and tried to delete everything I mentioned above individually but they won't go!
I renamed the original folder and installed from the CD into another folder so as not to get any confusion with folder names. At least it installed this time but now I can't get it to open using either the desktop shortcut icon or the tracktion.exe file!
thanks for your help again. I'm completely puzzled

Puzzled you say? That makes two of us !!
It's almost as if those files are in use when you try to delete them, which should not be the case normally.
Anyone else got any ideas on this one?

when your computer crashed, did you reboot? Maybe Tracktion was still in memory when you uninstalled, thus it's protecting the files in use and won't let you delete them. To make it easy, I'd would suggest rebooting... then deleting all files in the tracktion folder... then reinstalling.
does that help any?

thanks again for your help. It was after midnight when I gave up last night. I tried again today with another installation after the reboot.
I can now get Tracktion to open but got a warning at the end of the installation that
"a problem occurred while trying to install Re-Wire. This feature may not work correctly"
I still feel something is not right with this installation if I am getting warning messages.
If this means I can't use Rewire some time in the future I'm not happy and want to get everything set up properly at the outset.
Any further help appreciated.

Start all over, re-install everything, even OS. I do that every two months or so - it works

If you're using Windows XP Home, have they set up a separate user account for you? If so, is it a User account or an Administrator? If the former, you will need to log on as an Administrator.
To check, go to the Start menu, locate control panel and somewhere in there is a Users control panel. (I can't say for certain as I'm on the Linux box at the moment.)

Rich H., I'm not sure what you are suggesting I do.
The computer is brand new. I haven't created any files in any programme yet, have barely been onto the internet, have the firewall enabled and have up to date virus software.
I wonder whether I need such drastic action as reinstalling everything including the operating system. I hope not!

Well, I've a seperate windows-harddisk, so all the data is still there after reinstalling windows. The programs I use the most is also on a harddisk of its own, just waiting to be double-clicked
Really, when you get the hang of it, it'll take about an hour.

Or use ghost and right after a fresh install of windows & Drivers, and the music programs on another partition.
Create a ghost image of the windows partition
then it takes 6-7min for a full recovery

You sound like your not an ADMINISTRATOR on that computer!!!
You really need to be, you have corrupt files, and files you don't have access to due to insufficient permissions.
Please, search google and find out how to check if your user is an Administrator.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I think my concern about the warning message might have been misplaced. The warning was about REwire. Looking again at Tracktion it appears only to support Reason for Rewire. I don't have Reason so that might be the issue.
I've now tried a few things in Tracktion and everything seems to be working as it should.
I'll leave it for now as I'm just finding my way around the package.
I clearly need to get to grips with computer things a bit better. I''ll look into the things you've suggested.
This seems a really supportive forum. I appreciate it!
