surround/multichannel plugins

is there a comprehensive list of surround/multichannel (specifically 5.1) plugins anywhere?
in particular I am looking for multichannel compressors and limiters... i can't find any anywhere.
failing that, can anyone point me in the direction of how to build a functional compressor/limiter in synthedit (i've already tried [and failed] a couple of times, but can't say I really know what i'm doing)?
BTW, i have access to the steinberg surround edition set, but IMO they're pretty crap. i'm looking for alternatives.
any help would be much appreciated.

I'm very much looking for the same thing... So far, I've found that Starplugs has some decent surround plugins (compressor, exciter, phaser, panner etc) and both Kelly and now Voxengo has a surround bass management plugin. But there must be other alternatives...

with some clever routing, you can use 3 stereo plugins instead of a dedicated surround-plug. this is a little more hassle, because you have to adjust three devices instead of a single one, but it's to be considered if everything else fails.
there has been an online article on these routing things...

unfortunately, soundonsound seems to be down atm, but try one of the articles of that google result list, i think it should be there.

I was thinking about routing as well. It should be possible to route any number of surround channels to 3 stereo mastering channels: Front (L+R), C+LFE, Surround (L+R) and output those back to the surround outputs. And then run the same mastering configuration on all 3 stereo mastering channels, with the added option of fine tuning each pair independently...

this is basically how i've reverted to doing it. after mixing to 6 chnnels, i then re-import the wave files back into nuendo, then master the L+R as a pair, the Ls+Rs as a pair, and the centre and LFE individually.
this also means that I can use my favourite stereo mastering processes on the mix. I can also adjust front/rear/center/LFE balance if required.
actually thinking about it, this makes a lot more sense than being tied to using one or other particular specific surround plugin.
linking isn't a probem - i have enough screen space to have two or three plugins open simultaneously and don't mind moving two faders instead of one.

Don't think there are any compressors/limiters, but these are really good:

Trying to use 3 stereo compressors in a multichannel configuration is going to give some appalling phase problems.
Try the Steinberg Surround Edition:
8 channel EQ (The old Q-Metric)
8 channel compressor
8 channel reverb
8 channel limiter
LFE splitter
LFE combiner
There is also Voxengo's PristineSpace - up to 8 channels of convolution, all from one to 8 impulses.
Can be used in a surround environment or else for serial convolution.
Starplugs do some very usable tools too.
There is a new W5 Wizooverb - a surround reverb unit that blows everything else right out of the water.
That is about it.

These plugs are good and the features are deep. Also the developer is willing to correspond about questions.dystonia_ek wrote:Don't think there are any compressors/limiters, but these are really good:

There isn't one.
There was a printed manual in the box though.

Please help me!
Thanks a lot!

what can you do? just buy these ridiculously-overpriced-SynthEdit "creations" instead of using a crack
