Tracktion 2 - buy online?/overpriced in europe?

Is there anywhere that sells Tracktion as an electronic-downloadable package?
The reason I ask is that it seems a little overpriced in europe. The retail price in the US seems to be $149, but it is £129 in the UK. Tracktion 1 was only 50 pounds, and whilst I appreciate that they've added lots of stuff, they seem in the process to have changed the market it is aimed at by price alone.
A straightforward exchange rate conversion would lead to a price around 85-90 pounds.

I think the price for the boxed set is ok if you consider the bundled plugins - RMIV is alone something like 100 eur.

Yes but .. the bundle is the same in the US and the EU, so why such differential pricing?I think the price for the boxed set is ok if you consider the bundled plugins - RMIV is alone something like 100 eur
Even assuming you end up using all the plugins ..

An extra 10% at most if you are just comparing average levels of sales tax to VAT.tax
If you are comparing everything including import tax, you may have a point - though AFAICT the major component Tracktion itself, is 'made' in the UK.
Sounds like the normal price gouging to me.

Using a rough exchange guide, Tracktion (before VAT at 17.5%) would be about £80. Add on 17.5% and you're looking at £94. Even taking into consideration that distributers like Dolphin, TurnKey and DigitalVillage usually do a good job at discounting, something is happening along the way.
Might be the old theory that they can't buy in Tracktion from the distributers at a high enough volume in order to offer the kinds of discounts that American distributers can.

I'm not sure why it happens that way (I'm not in sales) but I just wanted to point out that this is consistent for all manufacturers. For example, I just did a quick comparison of CubaseSL3 and Tracktion2 from TurnKey and Sweetwater:
Sweetwater:
Tracktion 2 - $149.97
Cubase SL3 - $299.99
TurnKey:
Tracktion 2 - £129.99
Cubase SL3 - £229.99
It happen's for all manufacturers for some reason.

Oh ok. Then I;m not sure of the answer. I'll check in with sales to see if they can at least explain why it works that way. I'll let you know what I find out.ceenda wrote:Sorry, I shouldn't have used Tracktion as the only example. I mentioned something similar about sample libraries (SoundsOnline, I think) recently.

adjusting prices continually to reflect changes in exchnage rate is not an option, so a bench line exchange rate is gnereally used by import/export companies. Typically this benchmark is somewhat conservative. If I remember my figures from when I last worked for an import/export company, 1.53 was considered a safe number.
Distributers in the UK have greatly higher storage costs than their US, and even typically, EU mainland, competitors. This adds a surplus to goods prices over and above the usual import duties.
Petrol costs throughout the EU are higher than the US, which of course translates to higher haulage costs for unit sold.
The market will charge what the market can bear. If you all pay the prices, the piper will keep on playing. Stop paying the prices and eventually the market will correct downwards.
