On the left part of the screen interface theres a list of the 16 parts. To assign channels click on the current channel number and drag up or down. Click on the CH number, not the part number. Its the same thing to change the outs for each sound. Click on the out number and drag up or down.

First, you need to put it into a rack. Then drag the rack onto the track. Then while you are playing, you do just change the MIDI channel for the icons on the right. Of course, this is done in the bottom panel.

Whatever channel you have this set to while you are playing, the MIDI clip that is created should take on that channel, and therefore when you play it back, that MIDI clip will play the corresponding channel on ST2. Just make sure it's in a rack or it won't work, as you'll just be loading multiple instances. Just load the rack into all the tracks you want it to be used on.

Then for every track you put it on, change the input's MIDI channel to whatever channel that corresponds with the instrument you want it to play.

I hope this was clear. Let me know if you have any problems.

ok, so for playback it's fine. but for auditioning live?

and is the 5.8ms thing normal?

cheers,
You dont necessarily have to put it in a rack. You can also just route the tracks to the track containing ST2. Then adjust the midi channel as you go along in the input device. When you click the midi input device, you'll see the midi channel in the properties panel. Use the slider to set the midi channel you want to use. It'll be recorded onto the clip automatically.

Very true. I didn't think about re-routing all the tracks.

There is a small latency with Racks for now. Also, I wasn't in front of Tracktion, so I didn't really remember if you had to create the clip first or not. Sorry bout that. But I never created a MIDI clip first, so maybe I was doing something different.

Except for the latency, does that do what you need then? I find it works well, and not really that much work. As for auditioning live, then you have to select the right channel when you select the input icon. Again, not in front of Tracktion, but I believe the option is there in the bottom panel.

Yes, I just checked, and when you have a MIDI input selected, you can select the channel in the bottom pane. You don't have to create a clip first. When you record, the clip that is created automatically takes on the same MIDI channel as the input was when you recorded it.

So just select a new channel on the input icon's pane for each instrument and each track with the rack on it, and it should work. Just to recap.

1. Put ST2 in rack
2. Drag instance of rack to any track
3. On the left, select the MIDI input you wish to use.
4. When you have selected it, the bottom pane will have a "channel" option. Set the channel to the channel of the instrument in ST2 that you want to play on that track.
5. Record.

Now, when you play back, that MIDI clip will play the channel it recorded. And for each new instrument, just follow the same steps again for each track. Just make sure you have an instance of the rack on each track, or you can do ad AD80 suggested. I hope I'm explaining this easy enough. Good luck!

Also, if you ever want to change a clips channel to play a different patch or something, just select the clip and change it there.

yes but then everything has to go to one output right?
Right. But you can always wrap it in a rack after you're done playing everything. Then theres no real need to worry about lantency. I find the whole multitimbral thing a hassle anyways in every host not just Tracktion, its easier for me just to open multiple instances.

So how is Sampletank SE?

Are the sounds good?

I'm trying to decide whether to get the non-plugin version or the full version of T2.

I havn't even had a chance to really test T2 as the win98se version only just now became available, and even now isn't fully functional.

Just as an additional note to this...

I think it is better to use a rack rather than just put se as a filter on each track because that way you are only using one instance of se - rather than one instance of se per track - therefore more optimal because it uses less processor power.

I think I am right in saying that..?

Cheers,
JV :D
