I like to put Inspector and anything alse that will measure this in the master output slot to double check.
Tracktion does seem to do something different than other hosts in the master section or in the master metering.

Yeah, T is bit more sensitive. Just like its users.
But since it is a 32 or 64 bit mix path, you can safely ignore any clipping on the tracks. Unless you manage to boost the track level by say 192dB or so.
The master is the only thing you need worry about clipping. But most brick wall limiters will keep it below absolute 0. If you're rendering to a 32bit file, then no worries, that can't clip either. Sadly our mere 24bit D/A convertors can.
However, if I'm really anal, I don't rely on T's meters. I'll use Inspector or something similar.

I don't know if it is that much of a problem.
Do the mix to about -3db. Them make a render and do final mastering with a compressor or limiter set to -0.03 or there abouts.
Use inspector and other tools to double check.

I suspect this is very program material dependant. I swear I have seen it before but just now I couldn't reproduce with the song I am working on. Ttoz, if possible, could you send me a small archive edit that exhibits this behaviour? It could just be a single looping track and If you can only use the bundled plugs and inspector and set it up so I can easily open it and just go back and forth between the tracktion meter and inspector comparing the differences, that would be great. Send it techmail@mackie.com, "attention beno" in the subject line, that would be most helpfull.
Thanks,
Ben

there are many different ways to measure volume levels: a 0.1dB difference could probably be accounted for by different peak sensing algos..AD80 wrote:I really think theres about a .10 db discrepancy in the Tracktion meters.
ttoz: make sure the problem clip is panned centrally.

also ttoz, which metering mode do you have active? T can do RMS, peak, and (if memory serves) sum. All thre will give different results, and you may find that one suits you better than the others.
I'm still convinced there is something buggy with the level meters when wav files are repitched (not timestetched), but I've been told that this is an artifact of the repitching algo that is being used.

wait so what mode do we want? (for instance i want immediate volume, not rms etc)
