Any advice for working with regular patterns?

I use Tracktion alot, mostly because I love the freedom to switch between time sigs and tempos. In that sense, it's very open-ended, with no sort of rigid pattern working that is intended with packages like FLS, Orion etc. (and I love those 2 for pattern work, this isn't a better than worse than statement! :) ).

However, I'd like to do more pattern-based work (in particular, things like drums etc.) from inside tracktion. But I find it kind of awkward, given that you can't 'ghost' clips, so if make your drum loop or pattern in a clip and paste multiple copies, any changes mean you have to delete them all but one and copy them out again.

Is this where MIDI tools and step-sequencers come in? I kinda miss not seeing all the MIDI data on the timeline (as it's all happening in the step-sequencer VST). But it might be faster?

I just realised I can do this with energyXT by simply sticking in a MIDI Part and setting each pattern to a different MIDI input key... :dog:

Ah well, that should make things simpler, and I'll be able to see which pattern is being played (one long note for each pattern) in Tracktion's timeline.
