Moving Tracktion 2 to Laptop

I need a little help/advice here. I bought a Mackie Spike w/ Tracktion in mid-June. I installed the Tracktion (and registered it as well) and upgraded to T2. The Spike didn't work out so well. Mackie claimed it was my motherboard that wasn't letting the DSPs work.

So, I figured why keep the Spike, it just is an expensive 2in/2out without the DSP. Sam Ash let me trade it all back in, and I ended up with a PreSonus Firebox. T2 + Firebox = great combination.

Earlier this week I picked up a HP Pavilion laptop (with firewire). I want to install T2 on it, but here's the dilemma...I had to return the install disks with the Spike.

I really don't have a desire to spend $150 to buy another copy of T2. Is there any way to move it over to the laptop?

Thanks for any and all advice.

I would suggest contacting Mackie or waiting for Beno to give a response, but you are quite possibly not allowed to use T2 at all, as you upgraded from v1 which you don't own. The following is a quote from the Propellerheads site regarding a similar matter (with Reason):

we’ve been contacted by users who have sold or are planning to sell their copies of Reason 1.0 after upgrading to Reason 2.0. Doing so is a breach of the license agreement and will forfeit all your Reason license numbers. We hereby ask you to take a moment to read the following text to stop you from doing something you might regret.

DO NOT SELL YOUR REASON 1.0 LICENSE AFTER UPGRADING, IT MEANS SELLING YOUR ENTIRE REASON LICENSE!

Whether Mackie will view this in a similar way (they probably will) or not, I can't say...Beno will likely be able to clarify it.

logically, you returned the spike bundle, so you don't theoeticlly own T2 now. But as you still have working copy on your hard drive it seems you got a freebie.

Changing the licence to a laptop seems a bit cheeky to me. :?

Yes you are not a licensed tracktion user anymore and technically you should have uninstalled it when you returned your spike. However, if you can log into your my.mackie.com page and a tracktion license apears then you can download the latest version I guess and change your machine id. But you should go and buy a license if you wish to continue using it.

This is the whole reason you can't return software or games to a store. If you could return opened software, then everyone would just copy it and then return it. So they don't allow it anywhere that I know of now. This is to avoid people keeping the software installed after returning. You don't own it anymore. Sorry, man. Gotta buy a license. Well worth it though.

Right, and also, as soon soon as someone buys that returned Spike, your tracktion license might disapeer from your account.

Actually you can sell software and games through second hand vendors but it is polite to remove the product from your system and free up the install keys that come with the software. That then allows for the new purchaser to enjoy the software online and upgrading down the track.

Best for you to buy Tracktion again if you have sold your earlier version and be honest and support a great product. Geez, only the cost of competing products upgrades anyway.
Leave ones footprint in that of the mind not the physical world. We have screwed it over enough.
