Latency for PlugIns

Sorry for another newbie question...
I'm trying out the S.I.R. Reverb and it says that it works with a latency of 8960 Samples due to technical reasons.
Am I supposed to set this latency anywhere in Tracktion (1.6) ?
It's because I have the impression it's not being compensated when using very short reverb programs.
(On the other side... how long are 8960 Samples... ?)

If you are using it on a track, you shouldn't need to do anything. If you are using it inside a rack, then *generally* things should work. If you have it as part of a rack built aux track, then you'll run into problems.Flix wrote: Am I supposed to set this latency anywhere in Tracktion (1.6) ?

depends on your sample rate.(On the other side... how long are 8960 Samples... ?)
At 44100, it is about 200ms.

Ok, so the next question: Does every plugin have a latency (other Reverbs for instance) or is the S.I.R. issue a *special case* ?
Sorry, I've never been that much into those technical details before...

Convolution reverbs/processors do have extreme latencies.Flix wrote:Ok, so the next question: Does every plugin have a latency (other Reverbs for instance) or is the S.I.R. issue a *special case* ?

Most simpler plugs proudly proclaim "zero latency", which is another way of saying "so small you wont even notice"
Limiters must look a bit ahead to see what they are about to limit, so they usually add some latency.
Tracktion racks used across several tracks add a latency corresponding to the soundcard latency setting.
Since most plugs accurately report their latency to Tracktion, the easiest way to check the latency is to put the plug in an empty track, select it, make sure the "Auto-advance" button is active, and read the time in the "auto-advance" field below it.
