My name is Christian Alexander and I am the person behind SingleGrain. I have spent the last several years deeply immersed in both music and software.
I perform as Zygon, run the Abyssal Cartel collective, and have spent countless hours exploring the science of sound and building the tools I always wished existed. SingleGrain is the culmination of that work. Every line of code, every feature, and every preset was developed by me personally with a focus on creating a granular synth that is both intuitive to play and powerful enough for serious sound design.
SingleGrain allows you to sculpt audio grain by grain. You can control playback position, grain length, attack and decay shapes, and playback speed independently. Grains can run forward or in reverse and the read head can be locked while grains cycle, producing textures that are difficult or impossible to achieve in traditional granular tools. The modulation system includes three LFOs and a 32-slot matrix, with eight macros for sweeping entire performances and fine controls down to microscopic detail. The plugin also features a built-in frequency shifter, a sample recorder, and a library of factory presets and samples across ambient, bass, percussive, and experimental contexts.
