Why I Built SingleGrain

I want to start with a specific trick because I think it explains everything.

If you have ever set a delay to 100% wet, 0% feedback, linked the milliseconds, and then automated the delay time, you know the sound I am talking about. That stuttering, pitch dragging, almost physical sensation of audio getting stretched and yanked in real time. I heard it everywhere in riddim, in those spinback style noises that feel like the track is folding in on itself, and I was obsessed with it. I kept chasing more control over that sound and hitting walls everywhere I looked.

So I started building.

SingleGrain did not arrive fully formed. Every feature in it is the result of me sitting down, playing with something, hearing something interesting, and then figuring out how to make it intentional. The BPM synced grain repetition with independent speed control came from wanting exactly that delay trick feeling but with the timing locked to the grid so it sat in the pocket instead of drifting. The frequency shifter came from realizing that pitch shifting was giving me harmonics that felt too musical, too neat, when sometimes you want something that sits in a stranger place. The automation zoom came from trying to make tiny, precise movements without losing my mind.

None of that was planned from the beginning. All of it came from playing.

That is the thing I want people to understand about SingleGrain. It is a technical instrument built by someone who approaches it as a musician first. Every decision came from a moment where I was making something and thought, I wish I could do this differently. The result is a plugin that rewards that same mindset. The more you play with it, the more it gives back.

I am still playing with it. That is not going to stop.
