Native Instruments has released Action Strings 2, the latest addition to their range of cinematic Kontakt-based instruments, created in collaboration with Sonuscore.
Recorded by the Hungarian Studio Orchestra in the renowned TOM TOM Studio D, the sounds of Action Strings 2 are delivered with "a range of highly intuitive editing features, blending authenticity with creative control for blockbuster soundtracks".
Whereas Action Strings 1 was created using fixed two-bar phrases, the 30+ GB library in Action Strings 2 comes in the form of Live Modules — flexible mini-phrases that can be tweaked in terms of pitch, dynamics and rhythm. This approach to multi-sampling equips producers with the best of both worlds — the freedom to compose without creative boundaries, but with a level of performative realism that could not be achieved with a single note library.
The Actions Strings 2 engine includes two separately configurable ensembles, high and low, and producers can choose from 5 switchable microphone positions, as well as adjust in-built reverb and EQ settings. All phrases composed using the Live Modules engine can be exported as MIDI files to be played on any MIDI-controlled instrument, which allows for a greatly accelerated orchestration process.
In this walkthrough video, you can watch Reuben Cornell run through some of the key elements in Action Strings 2, showcasing how quickly the instrument allows composers to bring action and excitement to their cues:
