Neural DSP has announced the release of Mantra, a new plugin designed to be a comprehensive, all-in-one suite for modern vocal production.
Mantra's goal is to simplify the often-complex process of building a vocal chain by consolidating pitch correction, dynamics, EQ, harmonies, and effects into a single, streamlined interface. The design focuses on a fast workflow, eliminating the need to stack and route multiple plugins.
A key feature is its dual-mode operation. Tracking Mode allows for recording through the entire effects chain with no noticeable latency, giving vocalists immediate feedback with a "finished" sound. For the mixing stage, users can switch to Mixing Mode, which engages full-resolution processing for final polishing and detail work.
Mantra is built around three main sections: Correction, Harmonies, and Effects. The modules within these sections offer a mix of proprietary processing and emulations of classic hardware.
Key Features:
Correction Section:
- Tune: Real-time pitch correction with controls for tolerance and humanization.
- Gate: A simple noise gate to clean up recordings.
- Sculpt: An adaptive processor that analyzes the input to enhance vocal clarity and presence automatically.
- De-Esser: An intelligent de-esser that adapts to the input level.
- Parametric EQ: A four-band parametric EQ plus high and low shelves and filters.
- Multimode Compressor: Three styles including Tube (based on the LA-2A), Stress (based on the EL8 Distressor), and Multi (an OTT-style compressor).
- Multimode Saturation: Three modes including Tape, Tube (based on the Thermionic Culture Vulture), and Digital (bitcrushing).
Harmonies Section:
- Create up to eight pitch-shifted harmony voices.
- Includes built-in variation in pitch and timing for a more organic sound.
Effects Section:
- Multimode Delay: Four types including Analog (BBD), Circular (Lexicon PCM-70), Tape (Roland RE-201), and Dual. Includes a built-in ducker.
- Multimode Reverb: Three modes including Hall, Plate, and Ambiance, also with a built-in ducker.
- Multimode Modulation: Chorus (based on the TC Electronic 2290), Flanger, and Phaser.
- Doubler: A proprietary doubler designed to add width and weight.
While designed for vocals, Neural DSP suggests Mantra is also a capable tool for processing instruments like synths, drums, and guitars.
