Sonarworks has announced the release of SoundID Reference Virtual Monitoring PRO, the latest addition to their SoundID Reference family. This new system aims to provide ultra-realistic and accurate monitoring for music creators.
Virtual Monitoring Pro distinguishes itself from other virtual monitoring tools by focusing on personalized room simulation rather than generic presets or famous studios. It achieves this by using a purpose-built USB SoundID binaural in-ear measurement microphone and a guided measurement process to capture how a user's room and speakers sound from their own ears. This creates a unique acoustic profile that can then be reproduced on any pair of over-ear headphones.

The system allows users to:
- Recreate their own studio sound on headphones, carrying their reference environment with them.
- Capture a client's or mentor's room for accurate remote collaboration.
- Copy other trusted environments, such as a car, for mix checks.
The workflow involves four main steps:
- Get Virtual Monitoring PRO: Purchase the package, which includes the software license and the binaural in-ear measurement microphone.
- Prepare your setup: Get your over-ear headphones ready, be in the room you want to capture, and connect the SoundID binaural in-ear microphone.
- Capture your space: Follow an intuitive, step-by-step process to create your personalized room profile (available from November 11, 2025).
- Apply and mix anywhere: Load your room profile into the SoundID Reference application, either as a plugin in your DAW or system-wide, allowing your headphones to reproduce the same spatial cues, balance, and tonal behavior as your studio.
Virtual Monitoring Pro delivers true-to-life sound through high-resolution personalized measurement, ultra-low-latency DSP filters, and full control over the target curve. It supports stereo environments and offers near-zero latency as a plugin and less than 20 ms system-wide. The measurement sample rate is 44.1 kHz, with playback supporting 44.1–196 kHz. It is compatible with Windows 11 or macOS 11 and above.
