Sonora Cinematic and Ocean Swift Synthesis have announced the release of Porphyra Hybrid for Kontakt Player 8.
Porphyra Hybrid consists of a unique dual-layer engine that features the power of a wavetable synthesizer on one layer and a sampler on the other. There's an abundance of modulation options, a vast array of sampled sounds and wavetables, plus the ability to import your own samples.
The developers have taken advantage of Kontakt 8's new state of the art synthesis features and high-quality effects so you can craft lush pads, vibrant leads or intricate atmospheric textures with precision and depth.
Layer 1 - The Wavetable Engine
Porphyra Hybrid includes a huge collection of 200 wavetables with many different modes and ways for them to be shaped and manipulated. These include INHARMONIC which adds an additional wavetable to the signal which can be detuned, and SHAPERS which can control the width of the waveform alongside a second shaper that can use any of the 22 included algorithms to warp the waveform.
Layer 2 - The Sampler
Porphyra Hybrid offers over 500 sampled sounds, from analog and digital synths, to noise, to actual acoustic instruments, voices and more – all for use in the instrument's second 'Sampler' layer. Audition the sounds and use the modwheel to crossfade between layers. The Sampler also allows you to randomise the sample start for each note, adding organic variability to patches. Similar randomisation can be applied in the Wavetable layer.
For unlimited experimentation, Porphyra Hybrid allows you to import your own samples on both the sampler layer and the wavetable layer, automatically analysing the pitch of your sample and mapping it accordingly.
The Mod Oscillator
This is a new feature of Kontakt 8 that was used to the max when developing Porphyra Hybrid and allows you to add frequency and phase modulation to your sound design using an additional built-in oscillator. Choose how the internal oscillator interacts with the wavetable layer with options such as FM, phase modulation in both directions, feedbacks, and ring modulation.
Modulation & Effects
Porphyra Hybrid features a vast array of modulation sources which makes it ideal for creating ever-evolving cinematic sounds. Check out the special and quirky LFO X – with each click on the control, the instrument will generate a new random waveform by internally mixing different shapes. In addition, the LFO X can be faded in for up to 10 seconds – ideal for creating evolving pads.
Four different effects slots can be found – some of which are new for Kontakt 8. In addition to Delay and Reverb you'll find Creative (overdrives and distortions, a ring modulator, a programmable gater and more) and Mod (chorus, flanger, vibrato and other modulation-type sounds).

Designed for performance, Porphyra Hybrid has full polyphonic aftertouch capabilities ensuring that every subtle nuance and articulation can be effortlessly captured. It also offers deep NKS2 Integration allowing instant control over every single parameter with Native Instruments' Kontrol hardware.
