Sonora Cinematic has announced the release of Dark Veil, a dark-sounding instrument for Audiomodern's Soundbox sampler platform and the first in a new series of experimental instruments – The Founder's Locker.
Recorded, processed and curated by Sonora Cinematic founder and sound designer Alessandro Mastroianni, each title in The Founder's Locker doesn't begin with a product idea or market research. Instead, it starts with experiments in sound, building creations from curiosity rather than by design. Only those that remain compelling at the end of the process earn their place in the series.
Introducing Dark Veil
The first title in the series – Dark Veil – originated with recordings of bowed instruments from the North Caucasus, revealing a dark, textural beauty. Then, the experimentation began – running the sounds through pedals, amps, effect chains and more, reshaping the raw performances into something entirely new.
The result is a textural instrument for Soundbox that is ideal for playable cinematic drones and immersive atmospheres.
Dark Veil includes fifteen presets many of which take full advantage of Soundbox's MPE capabilities. For those users who don't have an iPad or an MPE controller or simply prefer to use their own standard MIDI keyboard, the presets are also available in a 'Modwheel' version, where the Modwheel controls the same parameters.
Pricing
Dark Veil is available now for £9 (+VAT) and, in keeping with the ethos of The Founder's Locker series, will never be discounted.
Dark Veil requires Audiomodern Soundbox v1.1.1 or later. More titles will be added to The Founder's Locker soon for Soundbox and other popular platforms.
