Sync Audio has announced the release of Fractiv, a new granular designer available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Operating as both an insert effect and a sampler instrument, the software is designed to provide structured control over granular synthesis, prioritizing deterministic results over the randomization often associated with granular processing.
Fractiv allows users to capture incoming audio directly for immediate sampling and manipulation. The core of the interface is the Grain Pad, which offers tactile, real-time control over grain behavior. This system is intended to make granular sound design playable, allowing for specific texture placement and rhythmic variation suitable for music production, game audio, and film scoring.
A key technical feature is Fractiv's Grain-Based Modulation system. Modulation sources are linked directly to individual grain cycles, meaning parameters evolve as grains grow, shrink, and shift. This architecture allows for the creation of organic movement where effects are tightly coupled with the granular playback engine.
