D50v is a VST-Controller plug-in for Roland's D50, D550 and VC-1 for V-Synth/VariOS hardware synthesizers.

Once installed the D-50 can be operated almost like a normal VST instrument. All parameters can be controlled via VST automation and via free definable MIDI CCs. Sysex Banks can be imported. Complete Patches and also parts of the patches can be copied and pasted.

This thing is pretty weak. Has some big problems loading normal SYSEX files no created by it or D-50 Librarian, which is actually better and free of charge but lacks the VST and parameter automation elements. I paid about $45 Canadian and it's not worth that, needs a lot of work to justify that price, but I don't feel TOTALLY ripped off -- I did get it working more or less fine in REAPER after a bunch of frustrating fiddling. Have a feeling it's basically abandoned by the developer -- if that's the case, I'd like to register my disgust with developers who discontinue development on half-finished products while continuing to happily charge full price for them. Kind of gross, especially since this thing wasn't even written in C, it was done in bloody SynthMaker or SynthEdit or whatever.

If you can easily afford MIDI Quest, go for that instead. That said, this DOES more or less work despite the major failings and the fact that the dev doesn't care but will charge you almost $50 anyway. Thanks for reading.

This basically works as advertised but definitely has some big problems. It took a while but I figured out how to get it functioning fine in REAPER. It's not worth the asking price at all, but it at least is a cheaper and, with some work, equally effective alternative to something like MIDI Quest or whatever.

Not to question your judgment on the product (haven't tried it), but have you tried the demo before buying? A very short research on the vendor's homepage shows me this:

This Software was primarily developed for Steinberg Cubase. If you use another VST-Host Software i recommend strongly to install the demo versions first for testing!
