0-COAST

The Make Noise 0-COAST (pronounced "No-Coast") is a unique and powerful semi-modular desktop synthesizer that cleverly bridges the gap between the two major schools of synthesis philosophy: East Coast (exemplified by Moog) and West Coast (pioneered by Buchla). It operates as a standalone, single-voice synthesizer without requiring any patch cables, making it immediately accessible to beginners. However, its comprehensive patch bay allows it to be fully integrated into a larger Eurorack modular system, offering deep and experimental patching possibilities for seasoned synthesists. The 0-COAST is a versatile instrument that provides a gateway to modular synthesis with a sound and workflow all its own.

The 0-COAST's unique voice architecture combines traditional subtractive elements with more esoteric, additive techniques. It features a triangle-core analog VCO with both classic saw and square waves, but also includes the signature Make Noise "fundamental" and "overtone" generation via the Overtone and Multiply circuits. Instead of a traditional filter, it employs a function generator (Contour) and a dynamic circuit called Dynamics, which is analogous to a West Coast Low Pass Gate. This combination allows for everything from warm, plucky sounds to aggressive, harmonically rich textures. With a built-in clock, random voltage generator, and MIDI to CV conversion, the 0-COAST is a complete and incredibly capable instrument in a compact and portable format.
