The iconic ARP 2600 has been brought into the modern age, with its legendary sound, unparalleled flexibility, and unmistakable character painstakingly preserved. This is more than just a reissue. A vision of what ARP would create today has resulted in a synth that honors its heritage while pushing sonic boundaries.
The original's signal path has been meticulously recreated, from its distinct oscillators to the coveted 4012 and 4072 filter types (both included and switchable). Even the subtle imperfections that gave the 2600 its unique warmth have been captured, like the analog component variations modeled by Component Modeling Technology (CMT) and the multiple saturation points that add life and depth. Advanced anti-aliasing techniques ensure pristine audio quality. Tweakers will appreciate the 20+ Trim Pots for dialing in vintage behaviors and calibration details.
The original 2600 was a revelation in its time, and that legacy has been built upon. Popular mods like oscillator sync and ADSR time scaling have been incorporated alongside features from the 2600 FS reissue, including an arpeggiator and expanded controller routings. Then, further advancements were made:
The original's spring reverb is faithfully represented, but a suite of 31 high-quality insert effects and a dedicated reverb slot have also been added. From classic pedals and amps to modern delays and shimmers, these effects elevate the 2600's classic sounds to new heights.
The 2600's intuitive layout makes it an ideal platform for learning synthesis. The clear left-to-right signal flow and optional patching encourage experimentation. This is further enhanced with a color-coded silkscreen that differentiates between signal sources, signal processors, modulation sources, and control modules. For those who prefer the classic look, the original white-on-black silkscreen is also available. On-screen help provides information and useful tips for every control.
ARP played a pivotal role in shaping synthesizer development and the sound of countless musical genres. After ceasing operations in 1981, the brand was revived in 2015. With ARP co-founder David Friend as an advisor, the Odyssey and 2600 synthesizers were successfully reintroduced for the 21st century. This new 2600 builds on that legacy, delivering an instrument that is both a faithful tribute and a bold step forward.
One of my favorite plugins rn. Very versatile and warm, I love that everything is on one screen, and it sounds way better and more analog than the Arturia version. The FX section is astounding, I love how realistic the spring reverb tanks on it sound, and it even works as an FX VST. 10/10.
