Cans2Cones is a headphone-to-speaker emulator that can help a listener make better mix decisions when monitoring through headphones. Cans2Cones reduces the "superstereo" effect of headphones by applying Interaural Time and Amplitude Difference (ITD and ITA) information to a stereo signal that emulates the distance and spacing of loudspeakers in a treated room. This is not the same as simple panning or width reduction as it produces an actual sense of distance and size to the emulated speakers. A special feature of Cans2Cones is a Dynamic De-Compression control which helps to overcome the compressed "in your head" sound that can occur due to the close proximity of headphone drivers to the eardrums.
Cans2Cones includes 3 "Quick Select" presets for the most common speaker sizes and positions - "Near-field", "Mid-field" and "Far-field" - as well as a "subwoofer" control that extends the response of all speakers to full bandwidth. Custom settings of speaker position can be obtained by simply dragging the speakers to any desired position.
Cans2Cones is a 64-bit plugin available as VST2, VST3 and AAX for PC and VST2, VST3, AU and AAX formats formats for Mac OS 10.7-10.15.
