CAT

The Behringer CAT is a duophonic analog synthesizer that meticulously resurrects a quirky and aggressive-sounding cult classic from the 1970s. This desktop module is a faithful, all-analog recreation of the original, offering two oscillators that can be played duophonically—allowing for two separate notes at once—or synced for harmonically rich and cutting monophonic sounds. The CAT is renowned for its biting, character-rich sound, making it a go-to choice for searing leads, fat and funky basslines, and unique experimental textures. Its compact desktop form factor and flexible modulation options make it a powerful and unique addition to any modern electronic music production setup.

The heart of the CAT's distinctive voice is its pure analog signal path. It features two VCOs, each with four mixable waveforms (sawtooth, triangle, square, and sub-octave square), plus a white noise generator. The VCOs can be synced for classic hard-sync tones, and a unique modulation section allows for complex cross-modulation and FM-style sounds. The filter is a resonant 24dB/octave low-pass design that can be pushed into self-oscillation for screaming resonant peaks. Two envelope generators—a full ADSR and a simpler AR—provide versatile shaping for both the filter and the amplifier. With its semi-modular CV inputs and outputs, the CAT can easily be integrated with other analog and modular gear, further expanding its already vast sonic potential.
