This thing rocks... ha! (just kidding, Ben!) So, The Drakqs is a VA synth with most of the expected features, and a few pleasant surprised. Its two oscillators both have a choice of seven waveforms and an FM modulator with the same seven modulation shapes. This makes for a huge variety of sonic textures. There is a variable pass filter with its own ADSR envelope, with additional modulation from an LFO in the basic modulation section. Treats like a built in delay and stereo width amount add a nice touch. All in all, there is a nice palet of features, without getting too "out there". This synth is good for getting a good punchy bass, or inspiring lead with a minimum of fuss, and getting into it. Although at first look one may not think that this offers anything that isn't already over-represented in the VST scene, free or otherwise, I have found that it does. The layout is mostly intuitive, with only one small exception in IMHO, and the interface is pleasing and spartan; The sound however, is what stands out. Just a little bit of tweaking will usually result in some inspiring timbres. Drakqs is a good effort, and I recommend a look. k r y o sRead Review
