Fixate:Midrange

Fixate:Midrange is a dynamic EQ plug-in by Newfangled Audio (distributed by Eventide Audio) designed specifically for midrange correction. It uses critical-band analysis — a psychoacoustic model based on how the human auditory system groups frequencies — to detect resonances, muddiness, and tonal imbalances in the mix.

Six dedicated processors address distinct problem areas: Mud, Thinness, Honk, Nasalness, Harshness, and Spectral Imbalance. Each operates dynamically, triggering only when the incoming signal exhibits the relevant condition. The Analyze and Fix workflow configures the processors automatically after listening to the source material, while a HINTMAP display provides visual feedback for per-band manual adjustments.

Controls include Spectral Balance across 15 frequency bands, Mid/Side processing, per-band solo/enable/delta monitoring, a Midrange Focus listening mode, automatic gain compensation, A/B comparison, and a tagged preset system. Profiles for mastering, vocals, guitar, and custom references are included, and custom profiles can be learned from any dragged-in reference audio.
