Techivation M-EQ is a linear phase equaliser featuring three intelligent Smart Curves that dynamically adapt their shapes to your audio. Work in broad, musical strokes while M-EQ delivers surgical precision automatically. Need a starting point? Mix Assistant enhances tonal balance with a single click.
Regular EQs force you to hunt for problem frequencies and stack multiple bands to get results. With M-EQ, we reimagined the process entirely. Define broad frequency ranges and let the Smart Curves surgically target only what needs attention: boosting what's missing, and cutting what's excessive.
For times when you want full manual control, simply reduce the "Smart Curve" amount to transition smoothly into traditional static EQ mode.
M-EQ gives you complete control over its character. Per-band saturation lets you stay perfectly transparent for mastering work, or add warmth and harmonic colour exactly where your mix needs it. From subtle harmonic enhancement to bold saturation, the character is yours to define.
Mix Assistant takes the guesswork out of tonal balance. It analyses your signal and automatically sets up M-EQ to enhance the overall frequency response, giving you a professional foundation instantly. Use it as a starting point for further refinement, or as a quick tonal enhancement that just works.
At the heart of M-EQ are the three Smart Curve bands: Low, Mid, and High. Each band is highly adaptive, and the way you work with them is different from what you might be used to.
Rather than hunting for exact problem frequencies, you define broad regions that require attention. Set the range where you hear too much or too little energy, then dial in how much you want to add or remove. M-EQ will continuously adapt its curves to target the relevant parts of the frequency range, filling in gaps or reducing excess as needed. The surgical precision happens automatically, dynamically responding to the changing spectrum of your audio.
"Band Gain/Cut" controls how much energy to add to or remove from the band's frequency range. Smart Curves dynamically adjust how much boost or cut is applied to the frequencies of the band, but the amount never exceeds the set Gain.
"Band Smart Curve" sets how much the band dynamically adapts to the incoming signal. When set above 0%, the band continuously measures the energy inside its frequency range and redistributes gain towards the areas that require it most. Boosts prioritise the less energetic parts of the signal, while cuts focus on removing energy from the loudest peaks.
This adaptive behaviour means you don't have to pinpoint the exact problem frequencies. Instead, you can set a broad target range and let M-EQ continuously find and address the frequencies that need adjustment as the audio evolves. Lower Smart Curve values reduce this adaptive behaviour, making the band respond more like a traditional static EQ. At 0%, the band curve is fixed to its base shape.
"Band Range" sets the frequency range affected by the band. The Range control also defines the base shape of the band's curve. The intelligent adjustments made by M-EQ's Smart Curves are confined by the band's base shape, and will never exceed it. Therefore, the base shape of a band is the strongest adjustment the band is allowed to make.
"Band Saturation" adds harmonic saturation to the frequency range of the band. The style and intensity of the saturation effect for all bands is determined by the global Saturation Character control.
"Band Stereo Balance" allows you to pan the band effect between the stereo channels. The Balance slider affects both the gain adjustment and the saturation of the band. Depending on the global "LR | MS" toggle state, the effect can be balanced between either Left and Right, or Mid and Side channels.
"Band Solo" isolates the band so you can hear just the frequencies it affects.
"Band On/Off" enables or disables the band.
M-EQ offers a pair of filters for cleaning up unwanted frequencies. The Low Cut filter attenuates everything below its Cutoff, making it easy to clean up low-end rumble and muddiness. The High Cut filter removes high-frequency energy above its Cutoff, helping tame brightness, hiss, and harsh edges.
The "Mix Assist" button enables the plug-in to capture and analyse the input and intelligently suggest an EQ configuration that improves the tonal balance of your track. M-EQ will capture 3.5 seconds of audio for the analysis. Make sure to play the busiest part of your track when capturing to get the best results.
"Saturation Character" controls the style and intensity of the band Saturation effect. Higher values result in warmer and more driven saturation sound, while lower settings deliver subtle thickening.
"Smart Curve Smoothing" controls the scale of the Smart Curve dynamic adjustments. Lower values result in more precise and surgical Smart Curve adjustments, while higher values offer a softer and more gentle effect.
The EQ Curve Display is a visual aid that helps you see what M-EQ is doing at a glance.
The golden curve represents the total spectral adjustment performed by M-EQ, updated in real time to show the dynamic Smart Curve corrections. When you hover over one of the bands, the corresponding base shape curve is displayed in blue to help with setting the band parameters. By default, the input spectrum visualiser is displayed behind the EQ curve to assist with your EQ decisions.
"Output" controls the amount of clean gain applied to the processed signal.
The "Mix" control blends between the processed and the original signals, giving you quick access to parallel processing.
