Magenta 4 is one of the most popular plugins that Acustica has ever released. This new version Magenta 4 far surpasses its predecessors. This upgrade is characterized by a GUI restyling, an unrivalled sound quality, with a much lower CPU strain, a completely resampled EQ section, the inclusion of plenty of highly sought after devices, and a new engine based on the latest technological developments of our revolutionary CORE 12. Magenta 4 is a real digital leap that has led to an incomparable sound.

We are proud to be giving this upgrade completely free of charge to all of our loyal customers who already own a Magenta 3 license.

Magenta 4 is a suite that includes six different plug-ins:

  1. Magenta 4 channel-strip.
  2. Magenta 4 PRE (preamps standalone module).
  3. Magenta 4 EQ (equalizer standalone module).
  4. Magenta 4 EQ STEREO (stereo equalizer standalone module).
  5. Magenta 4 COMP (compressor standalone module).
  6. Magenta 4 COMP STEREO (stereo compressor standalone module).

Specifically, this plug-in includes the emulations of the following gear (all belonging to the same renowned brand):

  • A modern American stereo tube EQ.
  • A modern American all-tube channel strip.
  • A modern American stereo limiter/compressor.
  • A modern American stereo limiter and mic preamp.

Magenta 4 uses the latest Acustica CORE 12 engine representing a new technological advancement by Acustica:

  • Upgraded SASM (Symmetric & Asymmetric Saturation Modeling) high performance saturation algorithm.
  • Introduction of a new post-production sample de-noising tech for cleaner deconvolved impulses called STT (Super transient technology).
  • Full compatibility with Client/Server architecture integrated by default in Acqua plugins.
  • Engine optimization, introducing a new highly efficient algorithm. This innovative technique is applied to all the deconvolved impulses for further de-noise processing and subsequent elimination of any incorrect low-level behavior (including the so-called "echo bug").

CORE 12 allows performance improvements for each plug-in of the Acqua Effects series, while at the same time preserving all the features already supported in previous CORE upgrades.

For each plug-in included in the Magenta4 suite there is a "Standard" version and an alternative "ZL"* version which operates at *zero latency, at the cost of extra processing resources, it is therefore most suitable to use when tracking.

Magenta 4 PREAMP:
Dynamically emulates the frequency, phase and harmonic distortion of the original hardware and includes the following models:

  1. Modern American Stereo Tube EQ: A1: Stereo Pre - Mic IN-OUT, A2: Stereo Pre - Mic IN-OUT.
  2. Modern American All-tube Channel Strip: B: Stereo Pre - Mic IN-OUT.
  3. A Modern American Stereo Limiter Compressor: C: Stereo Pre - Line IN-OUT.
  4. Modern American Stereo Limiter and Mic Preamp: D: Mono Pre - Mic IN-OUT, DMIC: Stereo Pre - Mic IN-OUT, DFLT: Stereo Pre - Mic IN-OUT and High Pass Filter (100 Hz) engaged.

Magenta 4 Mono Equalizer
This is a lighter version of the stereo EQ. Its main restriction is the absence of EQ model B per each band and that it can only process both L & R channels in identical way (hence referred to as 'mono' version, even though it can be used on stereo sources):

  • PREAMP: Hardware EQ pass-through tone simulation: on and off. Dynamically emulates the frequency, phase and harmonic distortion of the original hardware.
  • INPUT TRIM: from -24dB to 24dB. This function allows for a 'one knob' internal gain staging control by automatically linking input and output gain stages with an inverse law.
  • HPF: 9 frequencies (12, 16, 22, 23, 30, 39, 68, 120, 220 Hz): stepped frequency selector with an off position. Derived from two different models of EQ. Passive with 18dB/octave slope.
  • LPF: 10 frequencies (52, 40, 27, 20, 18, 15, 12, 9, 7.5, 6 kHz): stepped frequency selector with an off position. Derived from two different models of EQ. Passive with 18dB/octave slope.
  • LF (model A): 11 frequencies with shelf and peak shape option (28, 38, 68, 100, 150, 220, 330, 470, 680, 1000, 1500 Hz), stepped frequency selector, and continuous gain from -20dB to +20dB and bandwidth* control.
  • LMF (model A): 11 frequencies with shelf and peak shape option (82, 120, 180, 270, 390, 560, 820, 1200, 1800, 2700, 3900 Hz), stepped frequency selector, and continuous gain from -20dB to +20dB and bandwidth* control.
  • HMF (model A): 11 frequencies with shelf and peak shape option (200, 300, 420, 600, 900, 1500, 2000, 3300, 4700, 6800, 10000 Hz), stepped frequency selector, and continuous gain from -20dB to +20dB and bandwidth* control.
  • HF (model A): 11 frequencies with shelf and peak shape option (650, 900, 1200, 2200, 3200, 4700, 6500, 10000, 12000, 18000, 27000 Hz), stepped frequency selector, and continuous gain from -20dB to +20dB and bandwidth* control.
  • OUTPUT GAIN: with ±24dB of gain.
  • INPUT AND OUTPUT METERS: from 0dBFS to -36dBFS.

* Note that bandwidth control has a big impact on the maximum amount of gain that the EQ can deliver. This is identical to the hardware behavior. In shelf mode it also affects the shelf curve and at the rightmost setting, it adds additional resonance at the cut-off frequency.

Magenta 4 Stereo Equalizer
A full dual channel version with independent controls for each channel and MS option:

  • CONTROL LINK (CL): on and off. Switch on to simultaneously alter both the left and right channel settings.
  • MID-SIDE (MS): on and off. Allows for mid/side processing, where the left channel EQ is dedicated to the mid signal and the right channel EQ to the side signal.
  • PREAMP (PRE): Hardware EQ pass-through tone simulation: on and off.
  • LF model A: 11 frequencies with shelf and peak shape option (28, 38, 68, 100, 150, 220, 330, 470, 680, 1000, 1500 Hz), stepped frequency selector, continuous gain from -20dB to +20dB and bandwidth* control.
  • LF model B: 11 frequencies with shelf and peak shape option (20, 35, 50, 70, 100, 150, 200, 300, 500, 700, 1000 Hz), stepped frequency selector, continuous gain from 0dB to +10dB and fixed** bandwidth.
  • LMF model A: 11 frequencies with shelf and peak shape option (82, 120, 180, 270, 390, 560, 820, 1200, 1800, 2700, 3900 Hz), stepped frequency selector, continuous gain from -20dB to +20dB and bandwidth* control.
  • LMF model B: 11 frequencies with shelf and peak shape option (200, 300, 500, 700, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 7000 Hz), stepped frequency selector, continuous gain from 0dB to -10dB and fixed** bandwidth.
  • HMF model A: 11 frequencies with shelf and peak shape option (200, 300, 420, 600, 900, 1500, 2000, 3300, 4700, 6800, 10000 Hz), stepped frequency selector, continuous gain from -20dB to +20dB and bandwidth* control.

  • OUTPUT GAIN: with ±24dB of gain.

* Note that bandwidth control has a big impact on the maximum amount of gain that the EQ can deliver. This is identical to the hardware behavior. In shelf mode it also affects the shelf curve and at the rightmost setting it adds additional resonance at the cut-off frequency.
** Note that this model EQ does not provide both cut and boost options for each band, and it also has a fixed bandwidth.

Magenta 4 Compressor Mono
This unit provides 5 different models of compression and similarly to the way the EQ mono and stereo versions differ, it is lighter on the CPU compared to the Stereo version:

  • ATTACK: from slow to fast, varying for each model.
  • RECOVERY: from slow to fast, varying for each model.
  • SHMOD: Adjustable Attack Shape: from Min to Max. NORM position gives the original attack time of the modeled compressor. The 10 o'clock position gives the fastest curve setting. When going down to MIN, a further look-ahead function is enabled. The range/amount of look-ahead goes from 0 to 4 milliseconds. Values above NORM slow down the attack time.
  • INPUT TRIM: from -24dB to 24dB. This function allows for a 'one knob' internal gain staging control by automatically linking input and output gain stages with an inverse law.
  • THRESHOLD: from Min to Max.
  • FILTER: Side-chain filter: off or HPF ranging from 50 Hz to 250 Hz.
  • MAKE UP: Standard post-compression make up gain with up to 24dB of boost.
  • MIX: Dry/Wet Mix for parallel compression: from 0 to 100%.
  • SC: External Side-chain: off or on.
  • GAIN REDUCTION METER: with up to 36dB of gain reduction scale.
  • COMPRESSION MODEL SELECTOR: B, C1, C2, D1, D2. (B = vari-mu opto valve comp, C1 = vari-mu valve comp, C2 = vari-mu valve limiter, D1 = transistor opto comp/limiter, D2 = FET comp).

Magenta 4 Compressor Stereo
This unit provides 5 different models of compression. Separate control over the L & R channels is possible at the expense of a higher CPU consumption:

  • PREAMP: Hardware compressor pass-through tone simulation of device C: on and off. Dynamically emulates the frequency, phase and harmonic distortion of the original hardware.
