Mela is a modular music-making tool that grows with you, from your first patch to deep custom designs. Create polyphonic synthesisers, unique audio effects, and complex MIDI processors. Mela runs standalone on iOS and macOS, or as an AUv3 plug-in inside your favourite DAW, including Ableton Live, AUM, Cubasis, Drambo, and Logic Pro.
In Mela, there are no virtual cables to untangle. Instead, a patch is a tree of nested modules, where a module can chain its submodules in series or run them in parallel. The layout of your patch is its signal flow. Almost any parameter can be modulated or automated. Everything moves with a drag, and a patch can stay tiny or grow wonderfully elaborate.
Each module is focused yet powerful, and built-in help lets you quickly learn how it works. Here is a quick tour:
The full module list is at the very end.
Load Mela as an Instrument, an Audio Effect, or a MIDI Processor, then take your pick: over 200 included patches to play, pull apart, and learn from, or a blank patch and total freedom.
Mela ships with 109 modules and counting, organised into collections. Collection 0 is free and has everything you need to learn how Mela works. The rest are single purchases. A patch that uses modules you do not own still plays in full. Locked modules process signals as normal, and a purchase simply unlocks their controls.
Mela keeps evolving, shaped by its long-term vision and the people who use it. Wondering if Mela can do something specific? Just ask. The answer often arrives as a short demo video of a patch doing exactly that. And emailed feature requests somehow keep jumping the queue. Say hello, ask anything, and help shape where Mela goes next.

Version reviewed: v2.5 on iOS
An AMAZING synth, at an incredible price.
Don't write this one off because of the low, low price.[As far as I can tell, it's only so cheap because the dev mostly works, and is known, on iOS/iPadOS.
Even more generous is that the $14.99 price now buys both the ios version, and the MacOS version.
I love it so much that I bought his other synth, NFM, just as a thank you for Mela, and it's great price.
[I didn't expect to use NFM much, since I haven't thought much of other FM synths, such as Dexed, but NFM blows them out of the water easily, sound-wise, and is so easy to use.[It's only $10, IIRC].].
With 4 great sounding oscillators, and a suite of great FX, which can be used separately, Mela sounds better that most of my desktop VST synths, and I have many.
I'm not associated with the Dev in any way, and I don't think I've ever left a review, here, before, but felt I had to in this case.
I hope many give Mela2 a try, and if you do, I'm sure you'll be as impressed as I have been.
PS : If you search YouTube for "Mela 2 synth' the top result is a review/demo, from a channel called "The Sound Test Room", that sold me on this fantastic synth/effects unit [it's both].It's about 40 minutes long, but by half-way through I think you'll be well convinced, as I was.
At the price, you simply can't go wrong.
