Mix Lock Peak Time Trance Edition

Mix Lock is a desktop application built specifically for peak-time trance production at 136–142 BPM. It runs alongside your DAW — not as a plugin — and provides a calibrated reference framework that knows the genre in depth.

The headline feature is a one-way Python control surface (MixlockBridge) that installs into Ableton Live's MIDI Remote Scripts directory. Once enabled, every rack macro position in your Live session mirrors into the desktop app in real time over a localhost TCP socket on 127.0.0.1:9877. Touch a knob in Ableton, the corresponding dial in Mix Lock follows it. The bridge is deliberately one-way — Ableton drives Mix Lock, never the reverse — so the DAW remains the source of truth for every parameter and Mix Lock acts as a teaching mirror, not a remote control.

Once Mix Lock has your macro state, it runs Macro Health diagnostics at four levels: per-macro position, intra-channel combinations, intra-group cross-channel, and overall cross-group. It catches when your drum bus is over-glued, when your kick is fighting your sub at 80–120 Hz, when your atmospherics are masking your lead — with reasoning, not just flags.

A 400-entry Encyclopedia covers every channel, group, return and reference device in the bundled 43-channel template. Each entry has a calibrated default macro position, listening cues for every zone of the dial, GR calibration walks, and per-channel Call & Fixes — symptom-first diagnostic flow for 300 documented problems.

Beyond the live diagnostics, Mix Lock includes a 13-stage gated mix workflow from session setup through print and QC, 306 production techniques organised by song-section phase (intro / build / drop / breakdown / outro / transitions / tension / texture), a Theory + Arrange + Write composition workpad, a Chain Audit that compares your effect chains against the reference template and justifies its opinions when it deviates from textbook orderings, and an optional AI assistant powered by your own Google Gemini API key (local-first, no Mix Lock-side telemetry).

Calibrated specifically for peak-time trance. The opinions are baked in for the genre — every macro default, every chain audit threshold, every diagnostic rule. Other genre editions (techno first) are on the roadmap as separate products.

Built and maintained solo by Paul Smith over two years. Closed source. AES-256-GCM encryption on the bundled content. Apple Developer ID signed and Apple-notarised on macOS; signed NSIS installer on Windows.
