Naada Suona runs inside GeoShred Studio, delivering the suona's brilliant, penetrating double-reed voice across a multi-row continuous pitch surface. Press into the grid to drive the instrument from focused melodic passages to full ceremonial projection; slide between positions to shape ornamental phrases and continuous pitch movement in real time. The AccelMatrix Naada physical modeling engine generates each note as a continuous acoustic event, and because the instrument is polyphonic, you can build layered textures, sustain harmonic foundations, or voice full chords across the surface. GeoShred's integrated FX rack adds EchoMT, Reverb, and AmpCab processing directly in the signal chain.

A Silk Road Instrument Built for Ceremony and Song

The suona arrived in China from Central Asia along the Silk Road during the 3rd or 4th century CE and developed into a distinctly Chinese form by the Ming dynasty. Its conical wooden body, small exposed double reed mounted on a metal pirouette, and dramatically flared metal bell produce one of the loudest sounds of any acoustic woodwind. Regional forms are played across China from Xinjiang to Guangdong for both festive and solemn occasions, and despite its ceremonial power, the suona is equally capable of expressive, lyrical melodic playing. The model captures both that commanding projection and the instrument's capacity for nuanced melodic phrasing.

GeoShred Studio and GeoShred Control

GeoShred Studio operates as a VST3, AU, or AUv3 plugin inside major DAWs, or as a standalone application. Its isomorphic surface is tuned in perfect fourths, providing a layout where melodic intervals repeat consistently across rows. Pressure and gesture are mapped continuously to instrument parameters, giving direct access to the suona's full dynamic range from focused melodic passages to commanding ceremonial projection.

GeoShred Control is a free companion app for iPhone and iPad that connects via USB, adding a second multi-touch expressive surface for live performance. MPE hardware controllers and wind or breath controllers connect directly to GeoShred Studio as well.
