Friendly Scientist has released Slomo 2.0, a major update to the Mac App Store practice tool for musicians who learn by ear. The update adds two significant new features: automatic stem separation and chord detection.

Slomo has long helped musicians slow down tracks, loop difficult passages, and isolate instruments using its channel solo and tone filter. Version 2.0 goes further by letting users separate any audio file into individual stems — vocals, bass, drums, and accompaniment — directly within the app, without any additional software. The stem separation runs on-device and works with all file formats Slomo supports.

The chord detection feature analyses the harmony and displays the chords of the track. Combined with Slomo's variable playback speed, this gives musicians a practical tool for transcription and harmonic analysis without leaving the app.

Slomo is available on the Mac App Store. A full-featured demo limited to the first minute of a track is available on the website.
