Great selection of classic 80s sounds. Very easy to use, the parameters can be automated and the ADSR is effective (not always not with other similar plugins). Obviously, you have to be into these types of sounds and play with them across the whole keyboard. Otherwise, you run the risk of thinking they all sound the same. The LFO can be used to add movement to the sound, radically changing them in a very easy and fast way. You can also use your mod wheel to adjust the LFO effect live, which is really useful when recording live performances. Overall, a really nice plugin, plus you can't complain about the price.

SQ-8L is available for free. What is the point of sampling a free VSTi to create another free VSTi that is supposedly less programmable?

The point is compatibility: the original plugin is a Windows 32-bit VST plugin. SQ8ROM, on the other hand, is available as a 64-bit Windows VST/VST3 plugin and a macOS VST/VST3/AU plugin.
