Stratum is a virtual instrument that takes you down a wormhole straight into a 1980s futuristic soundscape. By combining fat, wide analog oscillators with a classic, crisp sounding FM engine, Stratum brings synth technologies from different eras together to give you the sound of future-past.
Stratum is a layering of a classic Supersaw synthesizer and a 4-operator FM synthesizer. Originally made famous by the Roland JP-8000, the Supersaw waveform has made a strong comeback in the trance and hardcore genres due to its edgy sound, particularly in synth leads and synth basses. Stratum takes this a step further by combining this classic waveform with a 4-operator FM synth, a noise generator and sub oscillator to produce a virtual instrument perfect for modern synthwave productions like those found in the recent hit series "Stranger Things" and the movie "Synchronicity OST".
Using the struQture audio engine from Qubiq Audio, Stratum also features two low-pass filters, a vocal format filter, and a tube distortion circuit to further enhance its sounds, all controllable by a simple modulation matrix featuring four LFOs with modwheel control and an 8-step sequencer called the Stepper. For users who need to punish their sounds even further, Stratum includes a unique XY Pad which can mix in a Bit Crusher, Dirty Phaser, Wah-Wah, and a Non-Linear Delay.
Arpeggiator enthusiasts will be happy to see not one, but two arpeggiators, one for the Supersaw synth and one for the FM synth. As the final polish to its sounds and tracks, Stratum includes built-in Chorus, Phaser, Delay and Reverb effects.

Has literally nothing to do with Transwave Synthesis. What a boring, huge disappointment. 321.
Read ReviewTranswaves are peculiar to Ensoniq's later synthesizers in the MR and Fizmo, following the crosswaves of the SQ-80 and VX series. What does virtual analog mixed with FM have to do with transwaves? And this is coming from Sonivox who have only made sample and synthesis VSTs since the beginning? Confirmed by the need for two gigabytes of disk space for all the SAMPLES. Beside that point, JP-8000 VA and FM have nothing to do with transwaves. Trying to claim that only reveals and complete lack of understanding of transwave technology. They could only get away with it as a marketing ploy because Ensoniq no longer exist to file a trademark dispute.
Crashes stand-alone and in my DAW. Tried contacting SONiVOX and AKAI for a fix but have received zero replies so far. Windows 10, Live 10.
Still no replies. They must be hard at work at the VSTi factory.
I have been trying to reach them for over a week and they also have yet to respond.
I can confirm that Stratum crashes Cubase Pro 10.5 WIN 10 (in my case when I close the project, Cubase crashes).
Beware: This CRASHES in Ableton Live Windows 10 64-bit as of 2021. I can tell you that it crashes the moment you instantiate the program inside the DAW, and according to the crash log it has something to do with Dwrite API in windows.
