Synodeia is a real-time audio to MIDI triggering plugin. It recognizes pitch from a monophonic source and sends MIDI out messages, so you can control any VST or MIDI device using your voice for example.

Features:

  • Octave shift.
  • Sine tone for testing, measuring purposes (Sine tone and tone decay time).
  • Input volume, Accuracy control and incoming signal monitoring (bypass).
  • MIDI output messages monitor.
  • The zip package contains an "Fmin chords" soundfont for you to test singing while synodeia does the accompaniment.

I've been looking for a simple way of entering MIDI notes by whistling that also works live and this is by far the best plug in I've found so far. It just works out of the box.

I've tried the Merlin & Digital Ear stand alone trials which were awkward to set up and gave very erratic results, not to mention the trial software interrupted far too often to get the setup right. I've also tried Waves autotune plug in conversion (which I own) but it's not real time MIDI conversion and is also fussy.

This VST just works. Yes there is no volume control, vibrato and no note bending which the commercial products boast but, unlike them, it actually simply works for monophonic note input as long as there is an audible gap between notes. It simply detects the pich at the start and holds that note even if you vary it while sustaining which is just what you want for note entry and it does it all live, with low latency, whil recording the MIDI directly to the DAW (Reaper in my case).

I am testing on a very lame machine indeed (buying a new laptop this payday) and the latency is better than many other plug ins.

Since this is an important function to me I will be testing out other products, like Melodyne, but I'm not sure from the docs that this conversion can be done live (anyone know).

I've also just come across Imitone which also looks very interesting.

Anyway, my congratulations and thanks to the author. Keep up the good work.
