Tension Reactor is a spring reverb built around physical spring modelling and circuit-inspired staging. It is based on a kind of weird spring reverb from the early 1970's that has a quirky and special kind of character, but that works really well on drums.
The point was not to make another clean digital space effect with a spring skin on top. It was to make something that behaves more like an actual tank, where incoming transients interact with motion that is already there, and where the tail feels a bit unstable and mechanical instead of clean and repeated.
At the core are three spring paths running in parallel with intentional mismatch. That matters because the decay does not just stack up like copies of the same tail. It feels wider, more alive, and less repetitive.
Input drive is also part of the behavior. Fresh energy hitting the tank can reinforce or fight what is already moving, which is a big part of why it feels less static than a lot of spring-style reverbs.
