Theorem is a wavetable synthesizer driven by mathematical expressions. It features a formula-based engine that turns equations into playable wavetables in real time. The sound can then be further sculpted with a low-pass filter, a unison engine, continuous 2D waveform morphing, built-in delay and reverb effects, and a flexible modulation matrix with two envelopes and LFOs.

But you don't need a math background to get great results. Some of the most interesting textures come from typing in random expressions and exploring what they produce.

Features:

  • The formula based wavetable engine allows you to type mathematical formulas to generate waveforms. Use time domain to draw shapes from scratch or frequency domain to define individual harmonic amplitudes.

  • Create evolving sounds by using y and z variables within your equations. This allows you to smoothly transition between different waveshapes using the Morph slider.

  • All waveshapes are automatically band-limited to ensure high-quality, anti-aliased sound. This allows you to experiment with complex formulas without any digital artifacts.

  • Stack up to seven voices in unison for massive leads and pads. Dedicated controls for detune and stereo spread allow you to add some thickness and width to your creations.

  • A 2nd-order low pass filter provides classic subtractive synthesis, featuring modulatable cutoff and resonance alongside key-tracking.

  • A flexible modulation matrix features two ADSR envelopes and two LFOs, making it easy to modulate the parameters.

  • The BPM-synced delay allows you to create complex rhythmic effects.

  • The reverb engine has adjustable room size, allowing you to add everything from tight resonances to ethereal atmospheres.

  • The interface is designed for speed, keeping every control on a single screen so you can focus on the sound without having to dive through menus.

  • A real-time visualizer provides immediate feedback on your formulas, showing exactly how they are affecting the waveform.

  • Includes a preset browser with the built-in presets, as well as the possibility to save and load new presets.

This plugin is very fun to use. I am very bad at math, and because of that I feel like I am not really qualified to get the fullest potential out of it, however putting random equations into it led to some very interesting results. It is very simple otherwise, which is never a bad thing, and I very much so enjoy it here. Oh, and the interface is very well made!

Overall I love it, and if you are good at math you can take it very far.
