Utopia is a really fun to use Toolkit for Trance and similar EDM genres. It's great for beginners as it's very easy to use, and also has extensive functionality under the hood for advanced users. There are lots of classic and modern EDM synth sounds built in that are instantly recognisable making this very useful for creating ideas quickly.
Presets are a combination of 2 layered sounds that are changeable, allowing for easy experimentation and inspiration. The FX section allows for building customisable FX chains and has an extensive list of options inc compressors, transient shaper, saturation, etc which can be modulated with the built in Macros, which in turn can be controlled with the built in Sequencer.
I received this instrument for free during a KVR promo and was that surprised how good it was, I felt the least I could do was write a review. For the full price I feel this is exceptionally good value considering it's not just a synth, it's a full on toolkit. If on a budget, with just a DAW, drum samples and Utopia I would confidently say advanced producers could easily make pro sounding EDM tracks. Utopia has more features than what most Trance produces had at their disposal in its heyday so it's just a case of investing the time learning the genre, this toolkit throughout, and you'll be on your way to the land of euphoria.
Read ReviewEasy to use & sounds are nice.
The sounds are drowned in effects (Reverb), just click the FX off button.
Utopia can be used in other genres other than Trance.
The Pad sounds are very good.

It's packed with great sounds and will give you ideas. I think there is no harm in having it to increase your creativity.
Read ReviewIt goes without saying that the preset sounds are of high quality, but every sound is dramatic and wonderfully creative. Thanks for the useful product.
Read ReviewAnother great instrument from NI. It really helps in Melodic trance and Orchestral Hybrid. The play series is a great collection of sounds that you can cultivate what ever you are feeling. The interface is easy to understand and there is a lot under the hood. Utopia is another nice addition to my arsenal of sounds.

Utopia comes with a lot of brilliant sounds and presets, very useful. Very good quality, very simple to use. A fantastic tool for your project. Great Idea maker.
Read ReviewBesides the samples, people forget there is a nice wavetable engine (1 for part A & B) with some nice distortion modes as well. Along with the effects and the sequencer that are also per part, you can get really creative. And this is with all of the Play Series engines. Highly recommended with you like presets but just want a touch more of synthesis.
Read ReviewAmazing versatile plugin. Able to use for many genres but is very techno based and heavy on the synths for sure.
Read ReviewGot this free to sign up with kvr, honestly it's pretty great, it reminds me of popular techno sounds from the 90s. I mostly write industrial, trip hop, drum n bass and cinematic styles.
Some of these presets are great, highly recommend.

For sound quality and based on what it is 5 stars. For all the stuff that's locked out on Play Series instruments, 1 star off.
Like most of the Play Series it's a (mostly) preset machine that allows you to tweak the parameters they give you and add some spice if there's an open FX slot. Excellent sound that you expect from NI. Lots of basic tweaks. Which means I'm glad it was free on promo.
All of the presets are (predictable) and designed as, I hope, jumping off points. Or for those newer to electronic noise, a guide to understanding the basics of Kontakt. For anyone used to Full Kontakt, the missing wrench tells the whole story- it is what it is. Many of the presets would be more interesting with polyphonic sequencing, as the "sequencer" is a functional programmable arpeggiator. Combined with the LFO it can get interesting. Otherwise, it's got some solid sounds that come nowhere close to adding anything new to the sonic lexicon.
I own Kontakt and while I appreciate their throwing the play series instruments at Komplete to make it look healthier, I give all the play series a chance and remove 95% of them. That is not to say these are bad products in any way. All the free sample libraries out there these days are a real gift. It would be nice if the sound designers put out something that didn't sound like yesterday's news. I mean come on, guys, Tangerine dream did most of this in the 70s, and what they didn't Roland put in a ROMPLER.
Read ReviewA good instrument brings new ideas to my creativity. Clear interface, useful settings, high-quality sound.
Read ReviewWorks well, a nice and clean user interface. Mostly mainstream synthesizer sounds. It would have been nice if something more surprising had also been found inside. Produces the best results in bright pads with good tweaking possibilities in sounds. Good for dance music and soft pop.

Very Good and well versed sounds for pop and others and having it for free makes it even better thanks KVR :D.
Read ReviewThe sounds in this library is amazing! I received it as a free gift on an event. Should give a try.
Read ReviewI received this product for free during a promotion. I'm not into trance (I prefer house/techno) and I have a strong preference for synths over sample libraries/instruments, so I'm a bit unfavourably biased towards a product like this; anyway I think this is a good tool if you want those "cliché" sounds.
I went through all the presets while playing with my keyboard and I was immediately drawn into making trance (or maybe EDM?) melodies/hooks, so I think this instrument does what it's supposed to do. Some presets may have a bit too much reverb for my taste (I didn't look into the controls avaible in the Kontakt instrument, but I'm quite confident it can be turned down), but the overall quality is very good.
Utopia is geared towards trance music, but I think it can be useful also for dance / pop music when some "trance" elements are needed. I think it's one of those "don't mess too much with gear and write actual songs" instruments.
Would I suggest this product? I don't know. I'm biased because I love using the actual synths synths, but if you like working with the Play Instruments serie and you're looking for a one stop shop for those sounds, Utopia may be a good choice (maybe also for people like me who prefer programming their synths: Utopia could be used as a writing tool and then the synths could be involved in a later stage of the production process, when the song has been written).
It's difficult for me to give a rating to a product like this, because it's not really part of my world... I was unsure if giving 3 or 4 out of five (maybe 3,5 out of 5? :P), but my overall opinion is positive, hence the 4.
Also, please keep in mind that I'm somehow spoiled when it comes to gear (especially synths), so my ratings could be different (lower?) from the average user...
