An absolutely great totally new approach to rhythm sequencing. It excels at fast meter changes a signature of the music of the creators (2 core members of Project RnL). If you are into progressive or want to go beyond the four to the floor this is a must.

The best MPE compatible synth around. Since it was open sourced the development is faster than most commercial synths. In that regard its also the project with the highest potential for the future...

The number of good presets inherited from its commercial times is tremendous. I wish all developers who, for whatever reason, stop themself developement would open source their babies...

I have a lot of plug-ins now and very good ones too, but the last time I had so much fun, and got so fast beyond just browsing presets, was years ago with a hardware called Arp 2600.

The technical review was given already very detailed by ZaBong, No need to add to that. I keep it emotional.

Instruments touch you or they don't.

This one does and has a very responsive developer. I am controlling it with a LinnStrument, a perfect companion as the modulation posibilities deserve expressive controllers. Though it isn't yet MPE compatible, it is already just fun to play and fun to explore. Plus Dmitry wants to add expresivity for all these LinnStrument, Roli, Continuum and alike controllers... Definitely get at least the demo - the slight noise after 90 seconds is not pushing you out of the music. I bet you won't hesitate to get the real thing soon. A bargain till the end of the year and well worth after it as well...

I most likely got that out of pure nostalgia! Who ever owned the hardware back in those days, will appreciate this emulation. I did love my cz 101, but as I moved early to the digital world and away from sequencers and keyboards, I sold that little beauty long ago. Now I get it back, without eating space in my bedroom studio. The UI makes it way easier to work than with the original. I can't compare the sound of it with the hardware version, but as I recall it feels the same. And I have a much better keyboard with more expression capabilities than that little mini key it came with.

As there is a lack of PD synthesis out there, it deserves a prominent place in the synthesis world. Though I can imagine a very different approach to this kind of synthesis. Maybe it encourages a developer to build a PD synthesizer with a more modern approach. Certainly it is easier to progam than FM, but has a similar potential.

Most modern synths have all kinds of effects added, to make it sound bigger when browsing through the presets. VCZ has only a chorus. I think this is an advantage, I prefer to add my own reverb, that helps to get a more consistant sound in the mix...

If you are about to look for a modern synth with all bells and whistles, this might not be for you, but if you want to explore that rare PD synthesis method, you should give it a go...
