Hey folks,

It's with great pleasure I can officially announce the forthcoming Sequent update. Sequent 1.2 is another significant update to our modular sequenced multi-effect unit. This update includes the most requested features, including:
  • Native 64-bit VST and standalone application versions for Linux.
  • Integrated undo and redo, with unlimited history size.
  • Master Sequencer.
  • Random pattern generation functions.
  • Partial preset support for routing configurations.
  • Thru switch for Delay Module to set whether the dry signal is passed through when the effect is off. Particularly useful when using the Delay Module as a parallel effect in combination with the Master Sequence.
  • Effects are now colour-coded for easy identification.
  • Category support in preset browser.
  • Integrated preset browser is now re-sizeable.
  • CPU usage is now consistent when using the Mac OS X RTAS plug-ins.
  • MIDI Program Changes are now multi-threaded, and so will no longer potentially stall the audio synthesis.
... and lots more fixes and improvements.

Most interesting of the new features is probably the Master Sequencer, another fully independent sequencer which can be used to enable or bypass each effect from within a single grid. Build up complex arrangements of effects for even more mangling possibilities!

Expect a public release of Sequent 1.2 in early May. Sequent is available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.

If you have any questions regarding the update, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks!

If all goes according to plan, and no show-stoppers emerge from the final testing phase, Sequent 1.2 will be available for download tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your patience regarding this, and apologies for the slight* delay.

* Only a few days later than expected: not bad as far as our release track record goes!

This is really cool, getting into Effectrix territory. Sequent is one of my favorite effects, really inspiring, and it gets better and better!

Sequent 1.2.3 represents a massive update to the product; an exhaustive list of new fixes and features follows:
  • Native 64-bit support for Linux VST plug-in and standalone application formats.
  • Integrated undo and redo, with unlimited history size.
  • Master Sequencer, to arrange effects along a time-line.
  • Random pattern generation functions.
  • Partial preset support for Routing configurations.
  • Thru switch for Delay Module, which if enabled allows the dry signal to be passed through when the delay effect is turned off.
  • Effects are now colour-coded for easy identification.
  • Category support in preset browser.
  • Windows VST 32-bit plug-ins and standalone applications no longer depend on additional runtime libraries. However, these libraries are still required - and installed - for the RTAS format plug-ins.
  • libjack is now weak-linked for standalone Linux. This means JACK is not required (but still recommended) for Linux users.
  • Windows RTAS plug-in is now installed to the correct location on 64-bit Windows operating systems.
  • MIDI Program Changes are now multi-threaded, and so will no longer potentially stall the audio synthesis.
  • Fix for rare issue that stopped presets from loading in Linux Renoise when LADSPA plug-in support is enabled.
  • Fixed crash that could occur when connecting Effects in the Routing Window whilst simultaneously changing Presets via MIDI.
  • Fix for crash (on both Windows and Linux) that could occur when 'space' is pressed when confirming the overwrite preset dialog.
  • Presets without Patterns are now considerably smaller when saved to disc.
  • Improved rendering speed of Router graphics.
  • Reduced CPU usage when switching or editing patterns.
  • Preset Browser is now maximized to fill the entire plug-in window.
  • For Windows VST (32-bit and 64-bit), the preferences file can be placed alongside the DLL file to facilitate USB or portable installs.
  • Additional presets.
  • Various host compatibility fixes.
  • PDF manual is now printer-friendly.
With this release, we're finally 64-bit on all three platforms across the entire product line. Next on the update schedule: String 1.3.

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or other feedback.

Enjoy!

Thanks everyone, much appreciated!

For those who have been PM and emailing, asking about the best way to keep track of updates as and when they occur, I'd recommend either:
  • Subscribe to the RSS feed at http://www.loomer.co.uk/feed.xml : This is always going to be the quickest way of hearing about an update, because this feed is updated instantly upon any new release.
    or
  • Search for the product(s) in the KVR database, and choose "Add ... to your watched software." This KVR service will email you when a product gets an update, although it can on occasion lag behind a release by a day or two.

Looks interesting - what effects does it include?

Post

It contains a Looper, 2 x multi-mode filters, a distortion unit, panner, gate, and delay. Each effect has a number of parameters, for 23 in total, that can be sequenced individually.

Individually, the effects are quite simple, but very flexible: the delay can, for example, operate from the sub-ms rate in order to create comb filters, flangers, etc. The real flexibility comes because of the routing: you can easily build up networks of parallel or serial filters, or dub-style echoes with stuttering pans, etc...

Effects can also run independently of the others: for example, the Looper could be a 32 step sequence of 16th notes, whilst the Filter could be a 1/4t 17 step sequence. Lots of poly-rhythmic fun!
