Something analogous to the way the new Grid operates...?

Hey all

In watching this, two things came to mind:

1 - This synth looks like it will be a blast.
2 - I imagine this is analogous to how the upcoming grid might work, though the Grid will be on a larger scale of course

Thoughts?

Yes, it's awesome. Although - typically for beta - it still has some rough edges, i.e. single instance takes 1-1.3GB or RAM :D

BTW, this would be closer to The Grid than Phaseplant:

I guess your point is that it's a modular system, yes?

BTW, if they need more beta testers......

Ouch! What a terrible name. Every search for it on Google and YouTube is going to bring up "Signal" by Output. :(

Isotonik does some neat stuff.

Much less willing to invest in Ableton Live these days though.

Things like Signal should be possible within the Grid...

Signal is just an advanced modulation system, it's not a synth or FX like Grid is (going to be).

@Tj Shredder
Yeah, they are all variations on a theme, nothing new or inspiring.

I foresee a possible reality where Signal is going to be a disturbing transmitter for Bitwig

What is a disturbing transmitter?
I could load Signal into Max and then send all kinds of modulation signals via Midi/OSC to Bitwig, but it would be easier and more fun to just look at it as a source of inspiration and start to patch in the Grid myself...
I think a lot of arguments for Live are based on M4L and those will be less important with a working patch environment within Bitwig...

The thing is - from what I've seen and understand - The Grid only seems to output audio signal, because it's a "normal" instrument / FX device (it's not clear whether it can output MIDI notes, like Arpeggiator, Note Harmonizer or Diatonic Transposer). There seems to be no way of taking the output signal and connecting it to nested device's parameters, other than using the DC Offset + Audio Sidechain "trick".

I guess we'll need to wait for Modulator Grid to fully cover M4L functionality :)

Didn't the text blurb from Bitwig about Bitwig 3 state that modulators from inside a grid device can directly modulate other devices, as long as they are children of the grid device? The video definitely modulator"arrow" hooks in the video.
