I am attempting to use Patchwork in Adobe audition, a DAW with no midi support whatsoever. Is there any method to get midi from a hardware control surface to a Patchwork instance for parameter control? Perhaps via a midi plugin hosted in Patchwork that can bypass the DAW to connect to my fader controller?
My research so far indicates that this is not possible, but I thought I'd ask here.

It s indeed not possible: Patchwork has no direct access to the MIDI driver. But maybe you can find somewhere a VST plug-ins that just does that?
