Thank's, Beno, for 48 tracks.
For people who have anger when they see mixers, do you know ? I have tinnitus (many musicians know what are tinnitus...) and I had stopped the music six years ago, because I was crazed by noise.
An one day, in december 2004, I see on internet a soft : Tracktion.
OK, I try, I must try.
Waow, great ! an other way than the others soft.
You say me : "Daniel, try to understand the Tracktion way !"
I've understood, more that you may imagine. I think Tracktion has given to me pleasure to make again music...
I want add a mixer for me and others, if they want.
Unpardonable offence ? I don't think... Maybe yes.
Daniel

Daniel, don't take it to seriously. I am sure most people do appreciate your work, and that the ones who don't just don't have to use your mixers. I think some people just belive that working without a mixer is the only real way to use tracktion. I say let everyone work the way they want to.

Ummm, maybe - yes! But why choose those people Tracktion? If they *want* a mixer, there are dozens of alternatives out there. I would dare to say, that the infamous (and long discussed) "(non) mixer paradigm" is the crucial point of working with Tracktion - or not. It is the essential basic idea behind T and the reason, why people love this program. So: Why do they love a program for its paradigm, when they try to find workarounds for it?bewing77 wrote:I think some people just belive that working without a mixer is the only real way to use tracktion. Uh, I don't mind T not having a mixer, but I wouldn't say that's its selling point! I'm a noob to T I admit, but as I venture into this new paradigm, frankly I can't really see the forest for the trees, so the things that attract me (its simplicity) might not be the whole "paradigm."

Tracktion is "simple" in sense that it provides the maximum amount of power and flexibility with the minimum fuss. I would prefer to call it "elegant" myself..

To me Tracktion is much more then just a mixerless environment. Sure, that's the first thing that meets the eye, but there are alot of other differences from other DAWs. I don't think I should have to go with say Cubase just because I want a mixer..Crossinger wrote:Ummm, maybe - yes! But why choose those people Tracktion? You've got a mixer. You just want it to look different, and be less flexible.bewing77 wrote:I don't think I should have to go with say Cubase just because I want a mixer..

To be honest, I suspect there is a better way to cure your timing problems than some clunky 3rd party mixer kludge. Wht not start another thread and we'll see if we can work out a better solution..?bk wrote:For those who think a mixer in T is unnecessary: I thought so too, until I ran up against timing inconsistencies with racks. The only way for me to avoid them is to build my entire drum mix (DR-008(4 stereo and 4 mono outs), compressers, EQ, reverbs, and a whole bunch of vol/pan filters) into one rack filter.

Yes, I fully agree with you. And my comments are not intending to lower the work, Daniel has done. In fact, he has put so much time, enthusiasm and effort into his SE-creations (as far as I can deduce from the GUI) I wouldn't say anything against his plugins. But this discussion has generally become tiresome. There have been mixers before (e.g. cmx844 from Subtek - http://www.kvraudio.com/get/693.html ) and anyone who's willing to use a full featured mixer has the possibilities. Not to forget the TracktionFaction Mixer, which was welcomed time ago.Lunch Money wrote:Daniel - You're a great guy. Thanks for joining the Tracktion community!
ALL I wanted to say is the following: It's a bit strange to me to say "T is perfect to me, but unfortunately it has no mixer." In this case it obviously isn't that perfect. Over the past weeks we had a discussion here with people who switched to Ableton Live or Cakewalk Sonar. They had reasons for doing this. And the always repeated argument was: "Workflow suits better my needs". OK guys - that's it. T doesn't have a "traditional" mixer and fortunately T2 won't have one either. If it is OK to you - fine; welcome to the party! But if it isn't, then my best wishes to find another application which is closer to your wishes and needs.
And now I'll end this discussion for myself (and ignore future postings concerning "mixers").

I didn't fully understand what was happening at that time, (it seemed linked to soundcard latency, but that's not necessarily so), but I've got a pretty good handle on it now and this is the only reliable way I've found to do it. If you have suggestions, I'm open to experimentation. If you want me to try something, respond here, and then I'll bump the old thread or start a new one.

I never said I don't want the way T does it. I am just saying choice is good. Sometimes I do see the need for a traditional mixer, most of the time I don't. What I don't understand is why some people are so pragmatic in their defense of the Tracktion way and in their offense against anyone who want's a traditional mixer. If someone wants to work differently than you so what? Let them. It's not like Tracktion becomes less usable for people who don't use Daniel's mixers just because they exist and people use them.platinumears wrote:You've got a mixer. Crossinger: I don't think any app is perfect. I like Tracktion though, but sometimes I want a mixer. You are saying that I should look into another app just because of that minor detail? Maybe it's perfect in every other area except that part. Should I still switch? Or should I use a great little plug like the ones Daniel has made to overcome that small bump in my road?
I just think people should look beyond themselves. Just because something works or don't work for you that doesn't mean the same is true for everyone else. With flexibility everyone can work the way that suits them.

I, for one, fully support Daniel endeavor. Tracktion is a lot more than a mixer less (in the hardware sense) environment, and instead of moaning and complaining about his need for a mixer he actually made one to fit HIS need. And to top it off, he 's offering his hard work FOR FREE. Peoples, can't you just say "thank you" and leave it at that?
I think this planet of ours could benefit greatly from having more peoples with a mindset such as Daniel is exhibiting.

I was just kidding with you Daniel.
In fact, Im envious that you can create what you need when you need it. I dont need it but that doesnt make it useful. I wont kid with you about it again.
Thank you for supporting the T community.
