this has been stated by mackie already. upgrading to T2 will cost T1 users AT LEAST the price of T1 less than full T2 price.snezhinskproject wrote:This argument that the T2 upgrade price should be the T2 price minus the T1 price is absolute cr@p IMO.

Well, if there won't be a downloadable upgrade
of t2 WITHOUT the cpuhoggs like rm4 ,then
i won't upgrade .
And this downloadable version shouldn't cost
more than 60 Usd (for full T1 owners) since a revised midieditor
should have come as a free upgrade anyway
(as in T1 it was the worst in sequencer history in the first place).
So 60 Usd for an improved metering, a midi clock ouput,
and better CC handling IS allready steepy.

This prompted me to check how long I'd had Tracktion. I've just checked thro' my back-ups, and I first got Tracktion v1.1.0 on 13/11/02Tingle wrote:$29 if you've had Tracktion over a year.
I remember andyeb@CM forum saying he'd found it listed somewhere, and asking if anyone had tried it yet. I downloaded the demo and bought the license within hours

Can't match your longevity, but identical behaviour here (led to Tracktion by Raapie's online review, on the sadly defunct www.raapie.nl website)Ian B wrote: I downloaded the demo and bought the license within hours

Come on... there was a demo of T1, you knew exactly what you were paying for, including the midi editor. If the one in T1 is so crappy, shouldn't you be ready to pay lots of money for the supposedly great one in T2?paladium wrote: And this downloadable version shouldn't cost

Plus what about those free upgrade things for referrals? Anyone remember that? I do. I did refer many people but didnt have them use my name... damn.
I mean they more or less demeaned the value of t1 when they gave it away for free like that, so it is a real trap they dragged themselves into.

I think it all comes down to this: Will Mackie honor the T2 price minus the T1 price. And if so, will the T2 price be the MSRP or street.

If it's under $50 (even $49.99) then I'll probably end up getting it after all, even though I definitely hadn't planned to (I'm already using Sonar 4 for just about everything).

Well there are a couple of rationalities they could take. The price of T1 off of the MSRP would make the upgrade $119 which would be $30 less than everyone else would pay. I think they could certainly get away with that.
The other rational could be that T1 was given away for free and therefore the value towards the upgrade is $0. That would be a dirty trick. I can't see them doing that.
Personally I think everyone would be happy with $80.

I hope so ($80 upgrade that is), I sold T1 to someone for $40 on the basis that it was a good $40 off the T2 upgrade price. Which is my understanding per T staff comments. If it turns out to be $119 then the guy I sold it to would have been better off just buying it for $149 without the upgrade.
The 'street' price vs MSRP pisses me off personally. The MSRP is never used, and street prices are always the same for software, I just hate that this sort of marketing crap exists. Just make a real price and sell it for that. This isn't a comment about Mackie in particular, just a general comment about the practice. Being that the MSRP is illusory, I sure hope they don't use that minus the T1 price to determine the upgrade cost. Because that would suck. Not because of the price necessarily, just the principle.

I have to agree.
They probably think , lets give T1 for free, so
maybe existing T1 users are kinda forced to upgrade,
otherwise they feel like their T1 has no street worth at all anymore.
But let's do not get too cynical about it.
Even if i don't upgrade , i bought the program
on it's original price to power ratio wich it scored pretty good on (except teh midieditor
And it has a nice userbase that help eachother out.
Maybe Tracktion is moving into no fish no flesh
territory.
I mean the following, It's not pretending to be an
entry level sequencer anymore regarding pricepoint
, plugins. BUT on the other hand it doesn't have the
goodies like liquid quality timestretch like the
big three. So we'll have to see where that leaves tracktion at this point.
Mackie/Jules have to be cautious not to lose the original outset of the program, positioning it
somewhere in the middle pack could mean that it doesn't reach Nor entry level , nor semi pro.
But i still like T1 and will continue to use it.

I thought they had ProTools users in their sights. Eventually, anyway.

I think any of you guys (and girls) will be bloody lucky to pay less than $99 for the upgrade. In fact i'd be seriously shocked if it was any less.
$49 - $69?! Yeah good luck with that
