NFR copies = no worth?

I guess that's aimed at me. Well, think what you want of me, but I only have so much to spend here. As I also have an official copy of cakewalk pa 9, I could get the official upgrade to Sonar 4 for about the same amount of money. But I really like T for the interface. But Sonar has more tech features. That's my dilemma basically. Or just go on with a really nice NFR T1, which I enjoy very much btwbraj wrote:Ungrateful bastard

My Z1 is working great sync'ed to Tracktion's midi clock (haven't tried the Oasys PCI yet). I am entirely happy with it (besides the random midi note off sent by the demofozziemusic wrote:But HW clocks are often much more stable than PC generated clocks. And yes, I do feel arp & delay syncing is a big deal. Most synths do not respond to MTC sync, only to clock.
As is with my Nord G2 and Waldorf XT. So it is a big deal to me. A while back I tried to sync my hw to my friends laptop with Live4 and midi clock out, and it was an absolute nightmare. As said, I have to check out the demo, but I would have preferred both options.
I tried all sorts of tempo changes in Tracktion and the Z1 is right there. Works like a charm! [/i]

So, it's not exactly worthless then, is it?fozziemusic wrote: Or just go on with a really nice NFR T1, which I enjoy very much btw

Ok, 10% discount on the price you paid for it!tkay77 wrote:..i´ve heard that owners of NFR copies (like me) will have to pay full price for T2...is this true?

..i mean it would be fair for the people who buyed it regularly......but a little discount would be nice, too...

db's on the right track here...we will all get the exact same discount. Assuming what we paid for T1 is taken off the price of T2--that's $80 off for some of us and $0 off for others--and that's 100% of what we each paid off the upgrade! Simple!

Nah, it was to the thread starter, and it was a joke. If you think you deserve to get something for nothing and then a nice discount, go for it. I have no problem with you. I doubt you'll get it thoughfozziemusic wrote:I guess that's aimed at me. Well, think what you want of me, but I only have so much to spend here. No, I don't think so either. It wouldn't be fair. Why did they start with these NFRs anyway, it makes life on forums like this very complicated. Let's all become commies and share everything without money involvedbraj wrote: ... I doubt you'll get it thoughSeems like a long shot to me.
Ah well, sorry for the OT-ness of my posts. I'll see how rich I am by May and possibly get T2. As T1 rocks, T2 is bound to rock as well

I'll tell you the worth of the NFR to me: I gained a new host (one in which I get alot more done than I ever did in Cubase), a new way of working with audio (Cubase handles audio in such a non-intuitive way, at least IMO), I actually tried and now use a number of VSTi's (something that just intimidated me in Cubase), I ACTUALLY MIX WITHOUT A HARDWARE MIXING PARADIGM (my God, I know, but I've actually begun to mix in Tracktion), and a community that while a bit rambunctious, is every bit as helpful and knowledgeable as any I could have hoped for (dots corner of eyes with tissue).

Yes, this would be the correct way of doin' it.valley wrote:you're missing my point:
A hardware clock may be accurate down to the nearest billionth of a second, but if it sends MIDI clock, it's telling the sequencer nothing more than "some time just passed."
If you are serious enough about synchronisation that you invested in a hardware clock, MIDI clock is a completely innappropriate method of distributing timing info.
Use MTC. If you have hardware that needs MIDI clock then either pipe MIDI clock out from Tracktion, or buy an extra MTC-to-MIDI clock converter to chain your other hardware off of.
Would be nice if my MPC2000xl could sync up Traction as a Slave over MTC and Clock though....Why? well in my case I would want to record my LIVE Set into traction which involves TEMPO changes. That said I dont' think you can do that with MTC in any host. You have to set tempo's manually AFAIK.

Well, it is OT here, but I still don't agree on this. Hardware clocks are present in almost all synth or keyboards, and are usually more stable than computer generated clocks where it might depend for a great deal on your specific setup and PC-hardware. I use my Nord modular G2 sometimes synced to an external source, and if it's a computer the BPM number is all over the place (very annoying for synced delays that will cause ticks/noise spikes on that occasion), while the clock of my stage piano is totally stable.Madness wrote:Yes, this would be the correct way of doin' it.valley wrote:you're missing my point:

If the point is that midi clock is so inferior to MTC, then a MTC to clock converter makes no sense at all as the end result is just relaying the clock information without the MTC 'bonus'. Still, I don't agree midi clock is so bad, my synths do use 'song position pointers' for knowing where they are in a song (important for arps), but it is not MTC. Although there is the fundamental difference of clock (and SPP) being relative and MTC absolute, I don't notice practical differences or difficulties with midi clock.
Bottom line for me is: it would be most flexible if both sync options could work either way. This would cater for all preferences and should not be too hard I guess if the 3 out of 4 sync options already exist.
edit: fixed quote again
