as a more general concept, I would like to make more use of the info window space that occupies a sizeable portion of the screen.braj wrote:OK, don't call it a mixer thenBut I'd still like it. I like valley's comment, and it would be like folder tracks. I guess 'mixer' is way too loaded a word around here.
forget mixer, lets make it a virtual controller
the window could have a new mode where it displays a bunch of sliders which can have any parameter assigned to them. Thus you could assign parameters from any filter, including volume.
That way if a person wanted to, they could make a sort of mixer, but they could use this in various other ways. Right now if I want to use two filters on a track, I have to constantly switch back and forth between them to edit parameters. With this virtual controller I can assign them and control them together.
This would also be more flexible than the current lock option.

This is what I pictured (20 tracks easy!):Lunch Money wrote:willow - that's exactly what Braj is suggesting; however, my question remains - how could that space be used effectively? It wouldn't be long before you were horizontally scrolling, too.

Yeah, but it illustrates the potential.pHz wrote:thats REAL ugly though ...

I like platinumears' idea of a modular controller section (pdxindy also mentioned basically the same thing) and that would be great. Something modular, whether it is mirroring the active filters or something else. I dunno, but it would be cool.

"posted at 10:47pm" - I posted an almost identical picture in another thread at 10:20pm.
Co-incidence?
Or just that teachers have no imagination?

willow--
It illustrates my point perfectly, though-- that's only 20 tracks and it's getting a bit squishy in there. Certainly not too squishy for ME, but just imagine 32 tracks, or as Braj alluded to, 60 tracks!
It's the idea of 'snapshots' that makes it actually worthwhile, moreso than the use of space, though. And since I extended that train of thought to include 'snapshots' of the order of tracks in the arrange view, I'm more enticed by THAT concept than by a wee little mixer window-thing.
As for all the VCA and other automation stuff mentioned, that's pretty much over my head. <laff>

Well sure, you're going to have limitations somewhere - but 20 tracks for a submix is pretty good. Remember, this is only supposed to be a subset, not the entire project.

Right, but one of the points I've always made is that you can make subsets in Tracktion already, and while 20 tracks is starting to feel a bit squishy (squishier than your model, I admit) if you REALLY needed 20 tracks of submix visible at once, you could do it already.

I have pretty much accustomed myself to mixing in T without a "mixer", per se, but this sounds really interesting. I think this could be a feature I want to see, regardless of opinions on a mixer. I'm not sure how it would work exactly, but I'm definitely intrigued.pdxindy wrote:as a more general concept, I would like to make more use of the info window space that occupies a sizeable portion of the screen.braj wrote:OK, don't call it a mixer thenBut I'd still like it. Not to mention yours was a mock-up. I'd imagine the UI could be sorted out to use all the available space more efficiently.willowhaus wrote:Well sure, you're going to have limitations somewhere - but 20 tracks for a submix is pretty good.
