A fair statement I suppose. I didn't expect it to be free in the first place, but since they actually did offer it, even as a clever marketing tool, they really need to follow up on it. That's just wise business practice. Don't blame the NFR license owners for a piece of marketing hype. Get over it.
If you had a tiny bit of sense you might have realised that T1 owners would get a better upgrade deal than NFR freeloaders.. even without the clues we have been given on this forum.
You know, that's just an atrociously arrogant attitude. It's self righteous. Even though a nice upgrade path was hinted at in these forums, did you know it would be $20? It could just as easily have been $80. I believe that a price tag of $199 retail was bandied around for a while, but actually, nobody outside of Mackie knew. Indeed, it seems that they didn't make that decision until it was released proper. If you have a problem with the NFR issue, maybe you should take it up with Mackie and not call us 'freeloaders'. Get off the cross mate.
If you had a bit more sense, you might have chosen to support the developer of this amazing package by paying his (very modest) asking price even though it wouldn't actually un-lock any features in the short term, but to encourage development and show support..
Hey, I still like the software and strangely enough, I would purchase it if the option was easily available to me. But I think it's regressive to not offer a downloadable version to everyone. There are, as has been stated numerous times, some common issues for foreign users. We don't get the rebate and to make matters worse, we have no option but to buy a boxed version. In all honesty, I don't expect my local store will know about it at all, or offer it for less than $200 to me. That's money I just don't have.
Why don't you just boot up your copy of T2 and make some music yourself instead of acting like a righteous defender of code?

Anyway, as far as this thread goes, I think $100 would be a fair price for a lite version to all concerned. So, here's my name to the idea.
Of course, I doubt it will happen, since they need to sell so many boxed copies to make their software bundle buddies happy. I wish them luck, but unless they change their marketing strategy I don't really see Tracktion being a big contender internationally. Boxed product sales are tough and economically inefficient.

Im aware of that. Unlike you I havent attached some spurous causality about Jules' income to it.

whatever if they don't want us to buy it - that's their biznass, their loss whatever.
don't see why you getting your panties in a twist though platinumears - no oats?

the 'newbie' part is a cheeky joke (obviously ), but the 'freeloaders' bit refers to any NFR user who decided that this was an app they would be using regularly, but still didn't buy a real license because that had a demo version that wasn't restricted.

I use Synthedit loads: the unlicenced version of SE has no restrictions that affect me at all, but I've still bought two licenses for it.. when version 1 finally comes out, doubtless loads of people will moan that they didn't buy it cheap when they had the chance.. they will be equally wrong. :P

Good luck to them in a competitive retail marketplace with all those boxing, advertising and shipping costs for a physical product. Good luck going against Steinberg et al.
A downloadable product: low overheads, immediate profit for the makers, greater distribution potential, convenience.
I'm sure there are reasons for the restrictive purchasing options. It's just disappointing for a user who waited months and was more than willing to shell out the cash for the software. If you want to talk about theoretical derivations of income and imagined superiority of code, then good luck to you. You can argue all of that when Tracktion is still a little known sequencer alternative over the seven seas.

I dont really care about your justification for being insulting. People are perfectly at liberty to do what Mackie encouraged them to do, and you being a dick about it says more about you and how petty you are, than it does about people who were given something for free.

I guess anyone who uses anything free at all is a freeloader in your book. Why don't you go chat with BONES and xoxos about it instead of continuing to be a dick here.

And it wasnt a f**king demo, it was a full, non-resalable copy.

We are talking about Mackie. I think they do have a clue about the retail marketplace. ;)

No, its only disapointing for those who used the software for months, but were not willing to shell out the cash!

Tough Titties I say!

I wasn't being insulting.. you'll know when I am! Mackie encouraged people to buy full T1 licenses by hinting strongly that it would be worth your while. As it turns out them have far exceeded any expectations.. but that just makes you lot into bigger fuckwits for not believing them. (Oh yeah I forgot, Mackie are the spawn of Satan.)

WTF do you think NFR means? Say it was printed on a white label.. it means its a promotional copy, ie: a demo. :nutter:

I think they should be made to wait with all the other plebs who heard about it in the CM review..
Platinumears, I've had respect for you and have learned from your contributions, but wow, what an elitist attitude. "Freeloaders"? "Plebs"? I discovered Tracktion in the latter part of last year, and was ready to purchase when Mackie offered the NFR license. At that time, by your thinking, I should have said "No thanks on the freebie: I'll pay". I'm thinking that when you bought it, you would've taken it free if offered. Regardless, I'm not looking for anything that they weren't otherwise offering. I would have jumped at a $20 upgrade, yes, but it wasn't offered to me, so I'll have to decide if it's worth full price (minus the rebate) to me.

Your ears may be platinum, but your people skills certainly aren't.

it was nice to get t1 for free, and its real big of mackie to offer a $30 mail in rebate, that makes 150-30= 120 with all the plugs... that u want or dont want... 120 would you rather use cubase or other crappy stuff??

i've decided to go the long way round rather than pay the toll at this bridge.
