I recently visited the States for the first time, and I must admit I found it annoying that the sales tax is only added at the till, as I'm so used to paying the price on the ticket here in the UK. Just two different ways of doing it, of course, and as you point out they pay less sales tax in the US than we do here.
I was surprised to see the percentages in the opening post on this thread... but taking account of the sales tax indeed narrows the gap (although there is still a gap
)Obviously for my own part I can go for the $20 download and I've pretty much decided to do that. After Koolkeys' less than glowing review of RMIV I'm thinking about exploring alternatives (Battery, DR008) before jumping for RMIV. Also the Sampletank actually sounds quite limited. So the $20 T2 download is now a no-brainer.

I finally got to talk to a rep of the Mackie distributor here in in Spain and they are expecting to have the boxes sometime around 6 months from now. I find it an excessive amount of time and I truly don´t think it will be that long but he told me that the price will be around the 200€ mark.

Well, first of all 6 months is silly. Surely they can get it sooner?
Second, 200euro sounds over the top, too.
It rather sounds like this guy doesn't want to be bothered, though it's obviously not for me to judge.
To answer the question more directly, Turnkey list T2 as a "Special Order" item - in other words they are not stocking it, but will order if they get an enquiry. They estimate 7-10 days, but that is probably a standard estimate. But the main point to note is that they are not stocking it as regular item.
Millenium Music in the UK are listing T2, but with no details whatever on the site.
Digital Village, iMusic, etc, don;t even mention T2.
I think we can therefore assume that the UK retail sector has not yet been set alight by T2, and it will not be receiving much direct promotion over here.

...so, if the non-US boxed upgrade prices are a WIP, does that mean I scupper my chances of a decent rebate on the boxed version if I upgrade online for $20?

I too thought it was a lousy answer so meanwhile I called another couple small stores and they told me the same thing that the UK stores have told you. I decided to wait a while ( as a suggestion from a friend who runs the biggest music store here) but I am curious about the subject.
I will get Tracktion. The only reason I did not get T1 was because there was no notice of the fact that the NFR was not a registered version. Let´s not get the argument going again, but there was a lack of information coming from Mackie. As a matter of fact just yesterday I got the spanish version of CM and they have an article on T1 and say nothing about the T2 upgrade.
I just bought Energy XT and I will be busy using it inside FL Studio and learning how to use it ( you see I like to support my small independent developers
) but Tracktion still seems the best option for the Audio work I have in mind with the band.Thanks for the reply. Let´s see how this all develops over time.

Full T1 licence here, and I've paid my $20, and am more than happy a the upgrade price per se. Regarding the non-US T2 rebate issue, I definitely feel like a 2nd class, and unvalued customer. I am a big T fan, and have been recommending it to all and sundry. Don't think I'm going to bother anymore.
The rebate issue and the pricing disparities further highlight the pretty shambolic launch of T2.
For example compared to smooth Propellerhead Reason 3.0 launch, the Mackie team just doesn't cut it for me. Got to ask if these Mackie marketing munchkins really have a clue what they are doing

From what I've read here, I think that you probably wouldn't, but you might want to hang on a little while longer to see what Mackie are intending to offer UK users.
