VSTi's won't make any sound

I had the same thing happen to me. There is another end-to-end switch under the transport controls that wasn't switched on. Do you have the pop-ups turned on? It kept popping up 'turn end-to-end on and IT WAS, but only on the input.

If I understand correctly you see that MIDI is being accepted, but you cannot get the MIDI into a track, right? But if you already have MIDI in a track it plays fine (e.g. old projects, imported MIDI files, MIDI entered with the mouse in pianoroll)?

One thing that I changed is the "Use a 'per-track' view for input devices", because I have several MIDI interfaces, and had the wrong one switched on all the time. If you switch the 'per-track' view off, you get the old T1 view, but this time the MIDI icons actually show that MIDI is being played. If there are more than one you can see immediately which one to connect to a track. (Not sure if you tried this already, since you have tried so many things already).

Just tried this... and it worked!

And it bugged the hell out of me that I couldn't figure it out the other way, so I switched the view back to "per-track", just to see what it looked like in a working configuration, and the answer was...

You have to have your midi input record enabled to play VSTi's! I had simply not clicked the red R on the track. Of course this was not something you had to do with T1, so I had no idea I had to do it. I mean, I didn't need to record, just play, so why would I hit record enable?

Because I was specifying a specific midi input to the track, I just wasn't record enabling it. I had already pointed the midi input at the target track, I just hadn't hit the R.

If you point a midi interface at a target track in the "old style" view, then change to per track input view, the R shows as enabled. So you can't have had the midi input pointed at the target track

R doesn't mean the track is record enabled, it means the track is armed for input.

Maybe not 'point', but you have to select the right input for the track first. And it's easy to forget to click the R. I don't really understand what you don't understand , but that doesn't matter, Lava's issue is solved now.

You're right, it don't matter now that it's solved. I think i've figured it out now, he was clicking a track in per track view and choosing an input from the drop down menu, but it was coming up with the R with a line through it, right?

I can see how that would be confusing now. Never noticed it before, but I don't use per track view much.

That's exactly what I was doing. I didn't think I needed to hit R because I wasn't planning on recording, just playing...
