I once started a thread in off topic about their last album and there wasn't even just a single reply although they're both outstanding and unique.
Bands that could've become true legends, but instead. . ..

I think the Nits haven't been mentioned yet although they would highly deserve it. There was a time when (I think) Super Channel played a few of their videos ('the train' and 'in the dutch mountains') but then everyone seems to have forgotten them although they steadily recorded one great album after the other.

I know Elfman has an amazing career, but whatever happened to the rest of those guys?

"I think I am going to cry! i just remembered that I am sure I had something else by Devoto on cassette or something related from a few years back - can't remember what it was but I am sure I am right in remembering it was pretty damn good. "
Jerky Versions of the Dream?
I had it on cassette around '84.

FFF (aka French Fonk Federation).
I've seen two live shows of them and I'm not sure which of the two has been the best gig I've been to in all my life.
One of their albums was co-produced by Bill Laswell, but they never made it much outside of france and in their own country they've only been something like the best kept insider thing because their stuff was boycotted by the radio stations due to political content in their lyrics.
Incredibly funky and gifted musicians.

OMG, how could I forget THE THE!!! Totally agree (have to disagree about Marc Almond, though; never "got" him).FaX wrote:...Ohe yeah and of course THE THE should have been monumentally HUGE.
The Nits! YEAH! I remember one night in, oh, 1991-ish, me and a buddy caught the video to "The Train" on MuchMusic, and we were just mesmerized. I went out and got the "Hat" EP the next day, and it didn't leave my CD player for a year! I didn't keep up with them, I'll have to check out the website. Great band!jens wrote:I think the Nits haven't been mentioned yet although they would highly deserve it. Jeez, I'm a huge Laswell fan, I've been living in France for the last 12 years, and I didn't know that! I'll have to try to find that one.Sascha Franck wrote:FFF (aka French Fonk Federation).

Yeah I remember being 15 and somehow someone gave me a copy of Symphony or Damn, it became the soundtrack to all the pathetic school based romances for a while..it's actually a good album, if you see it for 5 pound or under go for it!!... (this was nestled into the steady diet of Cypress Hill, Funkdoobiest, NWA, Ice Cube etc...) Ok that's it.aldred wrote:Don't laugh .... Terence Trent D'Arby![]()
A voice like that and he vanishes to appear ten years later with a drug-rehab face singing a song that could be a jingle. What a waste.

I agree; TTD was a wasted talent. Like Prince (around the same time), he just got too introspective to keep the audiences coming back. Too bad.corman rapeblio wrote:Yeah I remember being 15 and somehow someone gave me a copy of Symphony or Damn, it became the soundtrack to all the pathetic school based romances for a while..it's actually a good album, if you see it for 5 pound or under go for it!!... To be honest, the CD isn't sounding too great. I think it's "Free For Fever" Laswell was coproducing.kevink wrote: Jeez, I'm a huge Laswell fan, I've been living in France for the last 12 years, and I didn't know that! I'll have to try to find that one.
Great tunes on that album nonetheless.
Unfortunately FFF isn't even playing live anymore, from what I know.
