ok i like hardware, so i'm gonna be the troll here :troll:

what you just said is true even for software owners. We can see symptoms of this "mis-judgment" (hoping u get my french english) everywhere, on this forum too (and quite often). Ask someone "what's the better this or that plug-in", he will always answer what he owns. And he will be less objective, the more he invested money (yes software can be expensive too, i'm sure you know that)

if you wanna talk psychological, i can see frustration and jealousy in this very thread :troll:

We could make the opposite thread, with all the stupid things we can hear from guys thinking they can do the same as a real recording/mixing studio with their box. This thread would be as stupid as this one.

Here at Kvr few weeks ago I heard someone complaining his mic preamp wasn't very good, and he asked if anyone know a good mic preamp emulation, he said this way he could get rid of his cheap preamp.

THAT was hilarious. :troll: :troll: :troll:

now beat me soft fanatics.

Samson CO1U... a USB microphone that doesn't need a preamp or anything.

Ok I have to say I love both, but some hardware sounds a LOT better than software.

The soft Minimoogs... all of them... do not have the balls of the real minimoogs raw oscilators, the filters are close but something is missing even at higher sample rates like 96khz.

The Emu X was a joke compared to the Emulator samplers, the filters were NOT the same at all.

The virus powercore just really does sound weaker than the hardware, I don't know why but it just does, and this was coming out of an RME soundcard through MAckie HR824's both the hardware and software.

But I do love my software, it's easier to use, cheaper and takes up less space. But there has to be a reason why we sold our Virus, JP-8000, Emu samplers.... then had to buy tem back a year or 2 later : (

You're one of the nicest "trolls" I've seen,,, lol.

Personally, even if all else were equal, I would choose software for the editing capabilities alone. The ability to cut and paste, "reamp" tracks, and the removal of all the clutter I used to have has been worth the switch from a hardware based system.

I have a guitar player buddy who comes over to record once in a while. He would always defend his pedals and amps, and would say,, I just don't get the sustain I'm looking for with digital stuff. He would also say it didn't sound warm enough. The line he said that became the running joke was, "I'm a knob turner" Being a keyboard player, I didn't really know what digital stuff was good for guitar. When I would try to record him using his gear, it was so noisy, that the tracks were unusable. I tried to compensate with noise reduction plug ins, etc. That took out what life there was in the tracks, and guess what was most effected,,, the sustain.

I posted for some guitar advise over on the Sonar site. After getting some good suggestions, I finally bought a J Station for the Studio. What a difference!! I used that for a while, and recently got Amplitube, which I like even better. He fitted a guitar with some hum cancelling pickups, too. (a move he resisted for the longest time) He's been eating a steady diet of Crow here ever since. Maybe that's why he doesn't come over that much anymore,,, LOL.

I will say that I do love vsti's for the sample accurate timing and ease being able to put a uad 1176 on the ouput of them, with hardware it's a pain in the arse.

My main problem is with the bass, on vsti's it really is weak, and the high end of the keyboard sounds dull if using heavy anti aliasing, and aliased if it doesn't... so I prefer real analog over vsti's for quality of sound. And analog phasers are amazing compared to vsti fx ones.

Actually, judging from the recent flood of threads regarding this topic, this is a rather fitting observation :)

i agree with you, but you're comparing hardware to hardware here!

Compare the calories burned by moving the mouse around with having to move around the room to plug cables, twist knobs, remove the dust off your gear, take it for repair etc...
oh no, now you will have to have regular exorcize like youre supposed to  :hihi:
