Hi,

Thanks again for a lovely instrument. Someone (xander?) asked to hear something when I had it up and running, and it is funny that just as I bought CK I got called to do some music for a dance company. What follows isn't exactly what I'll be doing, but I had to experiment around with layers of CK in Sonar, to make sure it would work for this project.

Babbling again...

Anyway, there's 30 seconds of 5 layers of CK in a snippet called - naturally - "Five Layers CK"

Cheers,
Envoy

Thanks - like I say, that was just a quick "let's see if this thing works". When I've completed the dance work I'll post it (or some excerpt, as it looks to be 9-10 minutes long).

As to the second thing, wellll, you asked! When I first loaded CK2 into Sonar (Producer Edition, v4.0.3) utilizing the basic VST wrapper (DirectiXer), I thought for a minute I would be regretting my purchase! During both recording and playback, there was a distinct delay before any of the audio functions would start up. For example, after punching record, there would be a second or two delay, and then the click would begin and the recording would start; the start of playback would also not be immediate.

Worse than that, however, was the fact that even when I played as perfectly in time as possible (as a percussionist for 30 years), when I listened to playback (or looked at timestamps for midi info), I could see that there was something bogging down, and the timing had not gotten recorded as I played it, but was like the midi stream was flowing through mud or something!

I should mention this is the *only* VST I've come across with this problem.

How or why I thought about doing this, I don't know, but I had read about people using the VST of energyXT as a wrapper for Sonar, and while I only had the demo version I thought I would try it. And, unbelievably enough, it cured those problems (at least AFAIK at this point). I popped for their reasonable registration fee so that settings would be saved between sessions, and now I'm back up to speed.

Sorry this reply was so wordy. I hope you get a chance to have other people try CK in Sonar, to see if others have this same problem. Thankfully, I found a solution, but since CK is the first plug to show these symptoms, it might be a good thing for you to look into...

I've been getting the same thing in Project 5, v2 with both CK2 and CW. Haven't tried them in Sonar 3 yet.

I'll get back to you, but it may be a couple days (other work in the way). I'll try and check this out and let you know...

edited because I found the Cakewalk VST Adapter

Man, I hate it when I can't get something out of my head! I put some other work on hold and took a few minutes to check out the Cakewalk VST adapter, and the problem is still there (at least on my system).

I am using v4.0 of the Adapter; I had it re-run a scan of all my plugs, including CK. After all that was done, I deleted any of the DirectiXer-configured plugs, just so there wasn't any conflict. I loaded one instance of CK and recorded a simple 8th note pattern. I then added a track and used energyXT as an 'adapter' for CK.

When using the Cakewalk adapter, there is still a delay before any sound, both during recording and playback. Additionally, notes are not recorded in good sync, and play back with less rhythmic accuracy than I know I recorded them.

If I delete the track with the CK/Cakewalk combo, playback becomes normal - in other words, the CK/Cakewalk combo stalls playback for all tracks for a short amount of time (less than one second, but definitely a noticeable delay) for *all* tracks. Once this track is deleted, I can tell that the track recorded with XT as the wrapper works as intended, and is much better in time.

Hope this helps, now I'm behind on my other work! :)

I'm getting my delay problems with Version 4.4.4 of the Cakewalk VST Adapter.

Haven't had much time yet to play around with this, so I can't give much specific information right now.

Just out of curiousity, where should I look to see the version number of the Cw VST Adapter? Take a look at the properies of the .exe, or run it and look for it there?

When you run the adaptor, the first screen is a welcome screen. In the lower left hand corner is an "About" button. Click that and you're there.

The .exe properties probably also would tell you, but I haven't checked that.

Thanks, that did it. I'm running 4.4.4 as well.
